Introducing- Outstanding Occasions!

We are so excited to bring you guys more information about one of our very favorite vendors, the event coordinators at Outstanding Occasions!  We met these super cool, super savvy chicks back in 2008 and we have loved working with them so much.  They do an amazing job on their events and are some of the most professional ladies out there.  Here are their answers to our silly vendor questions!

Outstanding Occasions Vendor Questionnaire

How did you come up with your company name?

Heather:  Wanted it to be a double letter and sound great when you said it.  Extraordinary Events…boo, no…wait for it…Outstanding Occasions!  Looking back, I probably should have picked something that was easier to spell.

Heather

If your entire team were stuck on an island for a year, how would each of you respond? Would anyone be sacrificed?

Heather:  I would look for food first.  No one would be sacrificed…okay, maybe an arm.
Jennifer:  Me, I would have to find shade. Sun + me = RASH; Heather: she would find food; Sharisa: She would make some groovy sun hat; Lindsey: She would organize us into a working unit.  No one would be sacrificed because we all need each other to work!
Lindsey:  I would try to be calm and look for food to prepare for the team because I love to cook!
Sharisa:  I really think we could survive! We’d totally be able to create somewhere to live and we might even come up with a way to have a cute table setting complete with centerpiece.

What is your signature dance move?

Heather:  I love to dance so no cheesy moves.
Jennifer: Dance move, I don’t have any rhythm. So I would just sway….
Lindsey:  I’m not a very good dancer so I do my standard arm in the air and just kind of jump around.
Sharisa:  My signature move is the “hands-in-the-air-snap-your-fingers” move, hot huh?

Heather and Jennifer (Co-Owners)

If your life became a biography, what would the title be?

Heather: Too much to handle in one lifetime.
Jennifer: Take charge Marge
Lindsey:  “Lindsey of All Trades”
Sharisa:   not sure.

If your team were a band, what would everyone play and what would your music style be?

Heather: Indie Rock…Sharisa is lead vocalist, Jennifer plays guitar, Lindsey on bass and I am on the drums .
Jennifer:  I don’t have one type of music I like, I like it ALL. I would play the guitar and fight anyone who wanted that instrument.  Heather: drums I think; Sharisa: Vocals; Lindsey: Bass
Lindsey:  I always wanted to play the drums!
Sharisa: I think we’d have a country band!

Sharisa (associate planner)

If you were a TV show character, who would you be?

Heather:  Meredith Grey on Grey’s Anatomy.  She finally found Mr. Right, but the path was a little scary.
Jennifer:  She is not a character, but GIADA!
Lindsey:  Some people have told me I’m like Monica from friends because I love to cook but I hope I’m not that OCD!
Sharisa: I really wish that I watched enough TV to answer this question!! I guess sometimes I feel a little like Debra from Everybody Loves Raymond.

Sharisa

What are your favorite kind of sneakers, and why?

Heather: I like Nike.  I guess the whole JUST DO IT thing got me hooked years ago.
Jennifer:  I am an asics girl.  I have been for years!
Lindsey:  My Adidas gym shoes.
Sharisa:  My Pumas that I just got for Christmas for sure! They are super cute and really comfortable.

What is your ring tone/caller tune, and what does it say about you?

Heather:  Normal iphone ring.  Boring I guess.
Jennifer:  Nornal ring.  No funny stuff for me.
Lindsey:  I just have it on vibrate because I don’t want to draw a lot of attention every time it rings.
Sharisa:  It’s a guitar strum, and I don’t think it says anything about me except that I was sick of hearing other people’s iPhone ring and starting to scramble to find mine!

Lindsey (associate planner)

In Vegas, you’re most likely to be the one…..?

Heather:  at the Cirque de Soleil show.
Jennifer:  playing and winning Texas Hold’em
Lindsey:   Hanging by the pool with my friends with my favorite cocktail, shopping at the Forum Shops and going to fabulous dinners!
Sharisa:  ?

Lindsey (associate planner)

If you were to win the lottery, what would your charity of choice be and why?

Heather:  American Heart Association.  Heart disease runs in my family.
Jennifer:  Juvenile Diabetes, my 4 year old nephew was diagnosed in October 2009. They will find a cure in his lifetime!
Lindsey:   I would say the Phoenix Children’s Hospital because I love kids.
Sharisa: I would donate to Care for Life. It’s an organization that is dedicated to building and restoring orphanages in Mozambique, Africa. They help to create better learning and living environments for the children there.

At Barnes and Noble, what section are we most likely to find you?

Heather:  business for sure!
Jennifer:  Finance.
Lindsey:  I hate to say it but the magazine section. I am addicted and they have the best selection!
Sharisa:  The wedding magazine section or the cookbook section….or at Starbucks buying an enormous frappucino…

Jennifer (co-owner)

If you were a song lyric, which song lyric would you be?

Heather:  No freakin’ clue.
Jennifer:  I was BORN IN THE USA!
Lindsey:   Since my friends are really important to me I would have to say, “Winter, spring, summer or fall, All you have to do is call, And I’ll be there, You’ve got a friend.” By James Taylor
Sharisa:  No idea.

Heather (co-owner)

At the end of the day the most important thing in life is ___________.

Heather:  family.
Jennifer:  family.
Lindsey:  family.
Sharisa:  family.

Is your zodiac sign correct about you?  What is it and why?

Heather:  Yes, I am a Leo and I can be a little feisty.
Jennifer:  Yes, I am a Scorpio and I am fiercely loyal.
Lindsey:  I am a Taurus and it is spot on. I am loyal to a fault and pretty even tempered but also can be stubborn.
Sharisa: Libra and it is 100% spot-on…most of the time (which is exactly what a Libra would say, haha)

Jennifer (co-owner)

Your favorite song in high school was…?

Heather:  Regulate by Warren G and Nate Dogg.  I know every word.
Jennifer:  Candlebox, Far Behind I KNOW SO CHEESY!
Lindsey:  I am from Seattle anything Pearl Jam but my favorite was and still is Better Man.
Sharisa:  Anything by Green Day or any local band

Outstanding Occasions Vendor Picnic | by Kimberly Jarman

Today is a double post day because I had to share something fun that our team got to do today! We got to go to a picnic! It’s not every day that we get to dress up all cute and get together with a bunch of amazing friends, but today, thanks to the ladies at Outstanding Occasions, I got to meet up with some of my bestest friends and eat wonderful food.

I never take my camera to things outside of client shoots so I thought it would be fun to capture some of the details of the picnic… and since the OO girls were putting it on, I knew there would be some great touches.

Wonderful food – sandwiches, potato salad and of course healthy baked chips!! And look at these red velvet cupcakes provided by Classic Cake and Confections – they were to die for!!

Lindsey, one of the OO ladies actually baked all of these pies… what?  Look at how beautiful they are!

One of the reason I love these get together’s so much is because I get to see my girls! Me, Melissa Jill, and Jennifer Bowen!

And finally!!! A picture of my team!!! JennyP, me, and KB!!! We are HOT!:)

A HUGE thanks to the Outstanding Occasions team… stay tuned tomorrow for a vendor highlight on these girls. You won’t want to miss it!

It’s Baseball Season | by Kimberly Jarman

Let’s go Dbacks Let’s go (clap clap)!! Let’s go Dbacks Let’s go (clap clap)!!

It was opening day today for the Diamond backs and yes, I was there. I love opening day and it’s my new tradition to go every year. You see, here at Kimberly Jarman Photography we have a unique and diverse group of girls. JennyP is the girly cheerleader who dances and knows all things fashion, KB is the dreamer and takes cute pictures of her kids having a picnic while reading fun books, i’m the sporty girl who played sports all my life and married the sports addict, so instead of dancing, having cute picnics, I’m the one that you will find at the Diamondbacks game,  hot dog in hand, child in the other hand, and husband in tow. We love our baseball and actually have amazing season tickets.

Last year was our first year to have season tickets. My husband used the excuse that it would be a great business expense because I could take my clients… sure…. my brides would LOVE to go to a game… ha! I did have a few brides I charmed with season tickets, but it ended up just being a fun year for the family.

I never got to post pictures from last year and since it is a new year I thought that I would share some of our journey last year. This year my husband convinced me again to get season tickets and we are excited for the year because there are a lot of great things that come out of the tickets. Such as:

A gate that we go in the same time every time

New friends that we meet and also see at every game!

Kailee made quick friends with the Rally Back girls. She was the hit last year. This lovely lady was one of our favorites.

And Cute pictures of my future softball player. You should see her hit a ball!! Really, the memories are what count. Kailee had an amazing time last year and we have great memories. We are excited for this year.

Last year we tried to go to all of the games, but I admit I got a little burned out and couldn’t do 50 games in 6 months… so this year I put my foot down and told my husband we had to sell 1/2 of our tickets. So I wanted to blog our games that are on sale so that if any of you who are also Diamondbacks fans would like to go to some games you can get some great seats! Below is the schedule so if you are interested contact me!!!

The Swimsuit Panic Epidemic | by jennyp

That harsh overhead fluorescent lighting, the tiny dressing room that feels as though it’s being pumped full of hot stale air, a swimsuit in the size you thought you wore, and your image in the mirror—just a hideous beast with ripples and dimples and folds and creases on pasty stretches of skin that hasn’t seen daylight in a year.  Before the tears you’re fighting fall down your cheeks you RIP the hated pieces of spandex off your poor, insulted body and repeat in your head, “I just won’t swim this year.  I just won’t swim this year.”   It’s not just you sweetie, it’s all of us.

My darlings you’re not alone!  No one, not a size 2 or a size 12 or a size 20, enjoys the day when you have to go try on swimsuits.  Do they shrink the fitting rooms pre-summer?  Do they double check to make sure the lights are literally doubling as a torture device in war-torn countries?  Is there a man behind the dressing room actually shrinking suits before you put them on?  Yes.  Let’s just say yes to these things and work with these harsh and unfair conditions.  We can get through it, we’re strong women!

So let’s just break it down:  different bodies need different suits.   My big sister is never going to be able to pull off the tiny bikinis I own, and I’ll never (sadly ever) fill out a swimsuit top like she does.  These are just the facts, and we need to embrace our figures and work with what we’ve got because we’ve ALL got SOMETHING good!

Curvy Cuties

  • Halter-top bikinis can be a good choice by offering support, while providing some sexy cleavage too. Look for styles that are banded around the midriff and can be tied in back and around the neck. This style will give you some lift and will allow you to make adjustments for a personal fit.
  • Look for one-piece swimsuits with some structure in the bust, such as soft foam cups or at least, a shelf bra. Straight cut bust styles such as a classic tank can look clean and sporty. Wide shoulder straps will also be much more comfortable than thin, spaghetti straps.
  • Avoid strapless bandeau tops and those tiny, tri-tops that offer minimal coverage. Again, make sure to get a suit where you can order the top and bottom sizes separately.

Boyish Bodied Beauties

  • Look for tops with a touch of padding, or an under wire, demi-bra style that makes the most of a beautiful, dainty, bust line. Try to find a top with adjustable straps at shoulders and around back so that you can tighten and adjust things, to help fill out the top line.
  • You are very lucky that you have the body to wear those cute, ruffled tops that are so hot right now, so go for it. And as for bandeau tops, only you can wear those well. You can also show off in those tiny, tri-tops that the big busted girls only dream about.
  • Avoid tops with too much fabric or have a poor fit. Opt for separates, where you can choose your top and bottom separately.

Tummy Hiding Temptresses

  • Add vertical lines to your bathing suit using stripes, piping, patterns and seams. Select swimwear with dark side panels that curve into your waist. If you are wearing two-piece bikinis or tankinis, choose bikini bottoms in a dark color with a high waistband.
  • Find swimwear with a high Lycra content. Look for slimming bathing suits like the Miraclesuit that use hidden-control panels to reduce tummy bulges.
  • If you have a larger tummy avoid suits whose bottoms dig into your stomach, resist wearing tankinis or any swimwear with belts, bows or ties around your waistline.

Rear-end Minimizing Mamas

  • Have more detail at the bustline. A woman with an ample rear end should use v-necks and vertical stripes to lengthen her torso. Choose a halter styled- bathing suit with a light colored top and a darker bottom.
  • A strapless bathing suit is perfect for the pear shaped woman because it balances the figure by creating a firm horizontal line across the body. Wear empire-wasted swimwear and suits with an ombre pattern to take a few inches off your hips.
  • The worst bathing suits for bottom-heavy women include too-tight bottoms that dig into your flesh.

Tips for us All

  • Wear darker colors on areas that you would like to reduce or slim.
  • Prints and patterns with darker backgrounds are more slimming.
  • Reflective and shiny suits add pounds to even the smallest frames. If you like shimmery fabrics select a matte suit with shiny details.
  • Lots of fabric on a swimsuit makes the woman appear larger: not smaller.

Tips from Jenny P on Swimsuit Shopping:

  • Don’t go when you’re having an ugly day!  If you woke up and your hair was off, you hate the outfit you somehow pulled on, and you’re 90% certain you gained 20 lbs in your sleep–don’t go near a mall with swimsuits!
  • Grab a few sizes and IGNORE THE TAG!  Who cares if the tag says “bigger than I thought” if the image in the mirror says “fits perfectly!”
  • Pick a few things you wouldn’t normally try.  You always buy black?  Try on navy blue, mix it up, you might be surprised.
  • Ask the salespeople for help.  They know their stock and they know their products.  Utilize these people!
  • Have (if possible) some fun.  Remember: you buy a swimsuit so you can play in water!  That’s SO FUN!
  • Know I’m hugging you as you try them on, cry a little, curse the ocean, and gape at the large price of such little fabric….

Heather at Outstanding Occasions - Jenny P,
Just wanted to let you know what a great addition you are to the Kimberly Jarman team. Loving Fridays with you on the blog! As for the bathing suit, well…life just isn’t the same after kids, so me and the bathing suit are going to battle this year again!

A Freaky Film in my Basement

This week our studio has been overrun with a film crew.  The production management company, Big Brain Pictures, in association with the crew from Dynamic Film, are here to film the scary flick, King’s Man. They are legit and they are making a crazy movie. They asked if they can use my basement because it’s a pretty cool basement. When I moved into our studio I was excited to have a basement because eventually I want to shoot down there, but I didn’t realize how creepy and cool the basement really is until these guys came in and transformed it to something pretty freaky. While we are up here editing and working on our lovely beautiful pictures all we hear from downstairs is screaming, crying, shouting, and words like “quiet – rolling”, “action”, “quiet on set”. It’s pretty fun and exciting.

This is the outside of my studio right now.

And here my friends is the FREAKY basement. They are doing rehearsals in these pictures. It’s so cool!!!

Now normally my basement does not look like this. We aren’t really this FREAKY!! But isn’t it amazing what they did to my basement! I’m excited to shoot in here now!
