Part II of Dave and Lauries gorgeous May 22nd wedding. We had so many great images that I had to share!!!
Part 1 took us all the way up to the ceremony and now we head into reception time!!
As I was grabbing more details of the reception we had KB take Laurie and Dave out for a few more pictures while the light was beautiful. When she showed me the images she got I started crying because they were BEAUTIFUL! Again, i’m so lucky to have my team of girls working with me on weddings. They truly are special!
Check these out!
She’s so beautiful!
The cocktail hour and reception were next.
Laurie’s dad cracked me up!!!
There was some U of A and ASU rivalry going on here and later on there was some Suns Vs. Lakers rivalry going on.. it got a little scary:):)
Isn’t this little guy the cutest? I so wanted Kailee (my daughter) to be there to play with him!
Emotional Father/Daughter Dance.
And I have to say that when I found out that Laurie hired B-Boys to come and dance at her wedding she totally got the cool kid thumbs up from me! Really? Who does that? So awesome!
To two of the coolest people around…. you guys rock!!!

Again, we had an amazing vendor team at this wedding!!

jennyp-This wedding was so beautiful, the people were so fun, and seriously could we have had a better time AT WORK??!!! I won’t lie, the killer dance moves of my teammates never cease to amaze me. I know I’m supposed to be the “dancer” of the group, but come on, we’re pretty much American Bandstand all around.
Getting to know these two has been a lot of fun. Their engagement session ended up being one of my favorite of the year so far because they both know how to rock the camera and we got some amazing images. I knew that their wedding would be no different and especially with the vendors that they choose. It was a beautiful day! We had a great breeze and the temps stayed under 100!!!
These two are both stunning inside and out! They are truly made for each other and I love watching them interact! They are going to have such a wonderful marriage and i’m so excited for them.
The Vendors helped make the day possible so I have to start off with giving a huge shout out to them:
I’m so spoiled because I have such an amazing team working with me at weddings that we really have a GREAT time. I have to give a huge thank you to my girls who truly captured some amazing images! So thank you to KB, Mary, and Jenny. What is below is a product of their hard work and I am SO proud!!
Dave and Laurie had a very unique wedding at the Phoenix Art Museum. I really think that anyone who who gets married there has to be very cool, because it’s not your normal venue. You have to be willing to think out of the box and these guys did!
We started the day with Laurie and her girls, but soon had to split up in two different locations. Mary and I were at the Downtown Sheraton with Laurie and her girls, and KB and Jenny met the guys in Tempe so that they could get pictures on the light rail.
I loved Laurie’s dress. It was so unique and different!
A few beautiful shots of Laurie that KB got before she met up with the guys.
I was so proud of our 3rd shooter and newest addition to the Kimberly Jarman Team. She got some amazing images of Laurie getting ready.
More sweet moments.
The girls all had fun robes to get ready in and they all had their name on them. So cute!
We LOVE serendipity Videography. They just work so well with our team and are so courteous! This is Jeff intent on getting the perfect shot.
I love this moment between Laurie and her dad.
Fun shots with KB and the guys on the light rail.
Look at the Bottom Left shot… I love the random people who were stuck in the middle of a crazy photo shoot.
Laurie and Dave’s first look… intimate and amazing.
I LOVE my portrait time!
Love this shot KB got.
Aren’t they so much fun?
Mary rocked this shot. I liked hers better than mine!
The HUGE and totally fun wedding party.
The Ceremony details were amazing. Great job Aleasha and Wendell Florist shop.
I love this moment on the right. I heard dad tell Dave that there are no returns or refunds!! Laurie cracked up!
There are many more images to come… we decided to split this up into two sections so that you could really see how beautiful this wedding was!!
Again, a huge thank you to everyone who made Laurie and Dave’s wedding so amazing!

jennyp-Kim, KB, and Mary—you three did an AMAZING job! Kim—I love that you always, always give the credit to the photographers shooting with you. You always make sure KB is credited and adding Mary’s name to her shots is just such a generous thing to do. You’re one hell of a cool chick, and I love the security in yourself and your work to happily boost up the skills of the girls working with you and recognize their talent too. Not a lot of people act so graciously in their work, and it should be NOTED. xoxooxoxoooxxoxx

Aleasha Shelton-Breathtaking! I absolutely LOVED designing and planning this wedding, and the pictures couldn’t be more beautiful! It was so much fun to work with your team … as professional as can be, but you always blow my expectations when it comes to how much fun you have. Not to mention the results! Can’t wait to see more!

Taryn Bills-Mmmmmm delicious!! These photos are just so yummy!!!! Awesome job ladies!!! Thanks for the shout out in the blog post!!! Right back at ya!!!
“She has a great look.” Don’t you hope someone has said this about you, preferably in the last week? How does one acquire a “look”, much less a great one? I think that as we get older, we get to know ourselves so much better and part of that sense of self should be expressed in the fact that we finally figure out how to dress our self the best way. Hence, having a Look. I like to think I have a Look and sometimes my little sister will say, “I saw this shirt and it was SO you,” and then I smile inwardly and tell myself it’s because I have a Look. I have a style that says JENNY and it’s working. (That’s on good days, on other days I’m convinced my Look is, “That girl with the dirty hair, bags under her eyes, and the same flip flops for 8 weeks straight.” But whatever, we ignore those days!) So let’s talk about finding your Look, then tweaking it into Your Great Look.
Great Look Finder 1: What do you like? For me, I’m kind of classic in shapes and styles. You don’t find a lot of bright colors in my closet, not a ton of patterns, and not a huge amount of uber-trendy flashy pieces (unless you’re in my Vegas section, but that section is not for the faint of heart). I tend to buy a lot of black and gray pieces, lots of dresses, and tons of jeans. This is me. My little sister has about a million sparkly high heels and is always covered in trendy styles. My best friend, Jenna, literally owns more pink and purple clothing than my second-grader niece. My other best friend, Tara, has the most super-cool vintage band t-shirt collection and many beat-up Cons Chuck Taylors. These are our styles. This is what we like. What do you see the most of in your closet? Are you realizing you own three hundred cardigan sweaters and plaid shirts? Is everything super girly and frilly? Is everything structured and business-looking? Take note of what you’re attracted to in styles and what you tend to buy the most, this is your style, and style is the first step in creating your Look.
Great Look #1: Audrey Hepburn. The saving grace of us skinny shapeless girls everywhere! All eyes, black clothes, and pixie gamine grace.
Great Look Finder 2: How can you turn your style into your Look? I didn’t realize I wore more dresses than anyone on Earth until a guy I was dating pointed out that he loved the fact that I was always in dresses. Truth be told, it was a convenience thing! Dresses are one piece of fabric that I can throw on and be done with, and they’re pretty so it’s a win-win. After he pointed it out, though, I started getting into it. If I’m going to always wear dresses, which is a pretty girly thing to do, then I’m going to start wearing flowers in my hair, and buying shoes that go with dresses. Pretty soon, I had a sort of Look going. The same goes with BFF Tara, as her rocker girl style progressed, she started dying her hair darker and cut straight-edge bangs. We sort of evolved our styles into Looks. If you are going to meet me for lunch, chances are I’m in a little dress, boots, and a flower in my hair. So take a look at your style. If you’re attracted to plaid shirts and jeans, play that up. Get big brown belts and fun flats. If you’re seeing a Gap-ish closet of classics, go with it. Keep your hair classic, your jewelry simple and maybe add on some little Tina Fey black-rimmed glasses. Do you see what I’m saying? Go further down the line of the styles you like.
Great Look #2: Grace Kelly. It’s one in a million that can make their Look be built around sheer genetic perfection. Pearls and that painfully perfect blonde hair!
Great Look Finder 3: Don’t mix genres. Now, I’m not saying you have to be this one person all the time. The way I look at work and the way I look in Las Vegas is light years apart, but you can bet I don’t bring many Vegas pieces into my Monday morning outfit. It would just look weird. If you look in the mirror and your shirt is trendy, your jewelry is old-world classic, and your shoes are from high school, we might have a problem. (Unless your look is “Schizo-Girl-Chic”) Keep your styles in line with each other on every point of your outfit. Classic jeans really do look best with a classic top. Trendy gold leggings are only going to work with some flash-dance looking hipster, oversized shirt from Forever 21. Your grandmother’s pearls will look best with a simple black dress. Just take a moment to look at what you have on and decide if you’re working a Look, or if you’re very tired and just grabbing the nearest soft fabrics in your closet.
Great Look #3: Jackie O. Those sunglasses are still the coolest accessory ever. What a classy broad she was!
Great Look Finder 4: Make sure it’s your Look. Audrey Hepburn had a definite Look. Simple black dresses, tons of eyeliner, hair to show off her pixie face, and skinny black cigarette pants. This was her Look because this is how she looked best. Do you think Marilyn Monroe would look as good in it? Of course not! Audrey was straight in every place Marilyn was curved. They couldn’t share a Look, they were different species! You need to look at yourself and decide what your best features are, and build your Look on what’s going to show you off best. Marilyn’s look was tight, soft fabrics, red lips, platinum hair, and anything that hugged those amazing detours around her figure. Grace Kelly was rarely seen without pearls, and I firmly believe her pajamas showed them off as well. Jackie O worked those sunglasses and pill box hats like no one else could, and she kept that going her entire life. Try finding one picture of Sofia Loren without winged out eyeliner and body parts overflowing from her skintight dresses, cigarette dangling, just oozing sexuality. It is their Look! And they’re all gorgeous! No one can compare a rose to a tulip to an orchid, and it’s the same with women. As much as I could covet a Marilyn sweater and plunging dress, it’s never going to look right on my very detour-challenged figure. Look at yourself, really look, and start highlighting those fantastic spots only you have. Don’t focus on your hated stomach, check out your sexy shoulders! Ignore your imperfect thighs and flaunt your perfect skin.
Great Look #4: Marilyn Monroe. Having a slammin’ body really is a Great Look. The red lips, the hair, the mole, flawless.
Lastly, when you combine your best assets with your unique sense of style and run with it, bam! Your Great Look is born. I’m so excited to see it! I’m picturing women all over town sauntering around so beautiful that all we can do is gape at one another. Look at her hair! Look at her dress! Look at her jeans! Look at her body! Look at her purse! Ahhhh it’s like a choir in perfect harmony!
Great Look #5: Sofia Loren. Sighhhh, if I could look like anyone, it’d be Ms. Loren. I couldn’t be genetically further from this, but my goodness, what a Look.

Jeanette-Jenny,
I have to say I am LOVING your fashion pieces and your writing style. This was the best one yet. Love it! You should totally submit it to magazines 🙂
Today I drove around town for about 2 hours looking for locations to photograph this Thursday for an engagement session. It’s a normal thing for me to do this. I enjoy it and it really helps me see locations differently and get some unique and fun places to shoot. While I was driving I was thinking about how many hours I have spent driving around the valley and how it has been so great finding little holes in the walls to shoot. I hate shooting at the same location over and over again.
Finding locations to shoot isn’t always easy. I live in an area where there is not a lot of green grass; we have plenty of cactus and desert areas, but almost everywhere you turn it is private property and pavement. It kinda sucks that there aren’t a lot of rolling green hills around here and I love it when I get to go to locations like that, but even then I scout. I’m always trying to find something unique and different.
I get a lot of emails from photographers asking me where I took so and so’s pictures and sometimes they ask for EXACT locations.. Many times I just email back and tell them that they need to find locations for themselves. Of course I will give general areas, but I really don’t feel like it helps photographers grow if i tell them EXACTLY where to shoot. Most of my best pictures come from walking or driving around for hours to find the PERFECT location. I see the shot before I even pick up my camera and know generally what I am going to do there. Even on a shoot i’m scouting and looking for different areas and light. It’s what makes photography exciting and creative.
I truly believe in scouting and finding your own locations. I feel it will make you a better photographer and also make your clients feel good knowing that you worked hard to find them the perfect location. Take the time to drive around. Look at places differently than you have before. Think outside of the box and have fun coming up with places that you normally wouldn’t shoot. Don’t rely on other photographers to tell you where to go, but hunt it out for yourself.
That being said, be respectful. We don’t want to be walking all over people’s private property and ruining beautiful locations. Photographers have a bad name in some locations because they have not respected the areas that they are shooting. Get permission and build relationships with people.
Lastly, if a photographer isn’t willing to share with you where they are shooting at, don’t get upset, get creative. Go hunt it out for yourself and you might just find the coolest new location. Thank them for making you think out of the box and making you a better photographer.
If you ever see an aimless crazy driver pulling off to the side and holding her cell phone out window to take a shot of nothing, it might be me….. so feel free to wave, honk, and try to figure out what I’m seeing!!

Tira J-AMEN SISTER!! I get emails all the time as well here in So Cal and it’s getting a little old. I tell them the same thing too, as I drive around for hours after work with my little point n shoot. Some locations are little obvious when you are shooting at a local college or train station, but really? If we are artists, we need to come up with our own canvas. Thanks for this blog post!

kimberlyjarman-Rachael, I’m so glad you liked it… I never know what people will think when I comment on stuff like this, but those of us who scout work hard to find our locations, so good for you!!!!! Your locations rock by the way!!
May 20, 2010 - 4:09 pm
Rachael Earl-THANK YOU, Kim! Amen to this post 🙂 I spend hours looking around for places every single week, and people get so angry at me for not sharing when I’ve done all the hard work…
May 18, 2010 - 10:43 pm
Jenny Bishop-Great post, Kim! 🙂 I think I know where you took some of those pics!!! 😉 They’re near my old house!! Be sure to show us the “after” shots once you take clients there!!! 🙂

Mark Kuper -This is most interesting and informative insight from you Kimberly, Thanks! I would like to say I really understand on what your criteria is for a picking a new sight and maybe in time I will understand but for now, keep it coming.
May 18, 2010 - 7:03 pm
kimberly bee -I agree that finding the perfect location for a session is part of the creative process… that’s so true! I’m freshly inspired by new locations that I’ve taken the time to discover. I think the long hours of driving and scouting pays off. I’ve give away sessions, weddings, and time away from my family (editing) to shoot on private property, so I get a little hush-hush when it comes to sharing these spots… especially because they’re not mine to share and also because I don’t want to spoil my welcome! Anywho, I love your snapshots. They look like nothing special until we see what you do with them!
How many of you have seen (and love) Clueless? Well, if you, like me, watched with envy as Alicia Silverstone’s character used her computer to scroll through her clothing database, match tops with bottoms, and create adorable outfits on a virtual model, then you’re going to understand my ECSTASY over this amazing site I’ve recently discovered! Even if you didn’t watch that scene dying to be her like I did, I can bet at least once in your life you played with paper dolls or dressed up a Barbie, or two, or 80. I’m also going to go out on a limb here and say at least once a week you wish, just wish, you had something to wear in your stupid mish-mash of stupid clothes that you hate and stupidly bought while stupidly thinking they were cute. Honey, it’s all of us. Well, this is the only way I’m creating outfits from now on because it’s so much better than trying on 4,000 things from my closet and leaving them all on a heap on my bedroom floor!
Couturious is the fashion site I’ve now become an avid fan of and everyone needs to jump on it! Let me tell you how I see this site can be working (free!) for each of us:
Big Event Shopping:
Ok, you have to attend an event that requires some kind of totally dressy look and the thought of rifling through racks of dresses, wandering aimlessly through stores, and ending up in a thrown together getup you don’t even like with a pair of shoes you just know don’t go, is seriously affecting your sleep. Don’t deny the invite just yet, this site can be your saving grace! You can do your research before shopping! This site has actual products from all kinds of brands from American Eagle to Betsey Johnson to Prada. You can create an entire look and then actually go buy (or order online) the products, or, like I have done twice now, create the look, print it out, and take it with you to the mall. Picture it like grocery shopping—you take a list don’t you? How easy would it be to have a shopping list for clothing????? I honestly did this, walked into two stores, showed the saleschica my picture, and let them help me find the pieces. 30 minutes later, I had my swag. Brilliant, ladies, simply brilliant.
Trying Out “Iffy” Looks
Ok, skinny jeans are tricky, leggings under certain things are not always good in the application, and some dresses only look good on the mannequin. With this site you can play around and create “styles” to see if you like them and how you can work them to your advantage. Dying to get a little more rocker with your wardrobe? Try some stuff out on these virtual paper dolls! Wanting to see what accessories you should be putting with certain outfits you already wear? This is your chance to get all trial-and-error with it. Last week I was wondering if Chuck Taylors looked good with skinny jeans, I logged in, and bam! Turns out they look awesome! I didn’t have to buy anything, drive anywhere, or mess up my closet. I’m telling you, it’s changing my life.
Punch Up Your Own Style
Are you always wearing the same three outfits, in various rotation, depending on the laundry cycle? Don’t worry, we all are, but this can help! I played around on this site for hours the other day just mixing up stuff, layering pieces, and checking out accessories and it really made me look in my closet differently. I’m not especially fond of jewelry and I tend to use the same purse for months, but this inspired me to purchase a necklace (something I never do) and think about switching up my bags more often. To see the models in the different looks I was creating was making me see the different ways I can incorporate pieces I already have, and buy a couple new ones, to kick my style up a notch. I bought a wide red belt and bright red glittery “Dorothy” heels for Las Vegas recently, and after playing with this site I paired them with an all-white work outfit yesterday. Well, Kim, KB, and Christa all complimented the outfit! I probably wouldn’t have brought those accessories into daylight hours without the site letting me play around with looks. I’m telling you, it’s inspiring.
The amazing site! This is how your creations look. You can change model, background, and every single thing they’re wearing!
I think it’s good also because it reminds you that clothing is fun! I know I always tell you this, but I know many of us view our closets as the enemy and certain trends as objects sent to destroy us—but it’s not the truth! Fashion can be really fun when you learn that you’re in control and it works for you. I’m always looking for easy, cheap, fun ways to help people work on their wardrobes and this one is fantastic. Check out the five looks below that I made recently, and honestly printed out and took to the mall this weekend. Well, that and two things I bought right online from the website, and should be arriving soon! How exciting! It’s like I’ve become my own stylist—but for real this time! Get going girlies, let’s doll up and hit the town in mega-watt glammy-glam fashionista style! (Or…just in a cute outfit)
