Mary Jordan | Associate Photographer

One winter Thursday night I was attending one of the photographer meetings at my studio when I met an amazing girl. She got up in front of the entire crew and told us a little about herself and her journey as a photographer. She was new to the craft and had a real passion for photography. As I looked at her images, and really liked what I saw, and then listened to her talk, I kinda got a crush on her… now don’t take this the wrong way, it wasn’t a weird crush, but a legit healthy girl crush, you know the kind that make you want to be lifelong friends and hang out all the time.  During the meeting I looked her up on Facebook on my IPhone and sent her a friend request and asked her to be my friend. There was something about her and I knew that I was going to ask her to work for me as an associate photographer, I just had to figure out how to break it to her that she was going to be on my team someday!

Well as luck had it, we did become friends and she confessed to me one day at lunch that she really wanted to be a part of my team, so after much talking, laughing, and hundreds of emails later, I’m so excited to announce our newest associate photographer, Mary Jordan.

Mary, as I said above, is one of those people that you just have to get to know. There is something about her that draws people to her. It’s probably her innocence, sweet heart, and amazing smile, that sucks you in; but it really is genuine and your life will never be the same once you meet.

Photography is not really something that can easily be taught. Yes, we can teach the fundamentals, but the creativity of photography is something that is a gift and is more of a feeling. I truly believe that Mary has that true creative photographers eye; Her images capture emotion and life, and they spark something in your heart that draws you in.  Although Mary is new to photography, her images don’t show it. She has a true natural gift.

Mary will be joining our team as a 2nd shooter for weddings and also as an associate photographer for portraits. She will be focusing on families, children, and High School Seniors.

If you are interested in having Mary photograph your family please contact us for more information.

Laurie + Daniel | Four Seasons Troon North

The first wedding of the season always brings butterflies to my stomach. I’m just overly excited and nervous. I do double checks on my gear, go through my equipment checklists 800 times,  go through the day and the schedule over and over in my head, and make numerous calls to KB and Jenny to make sure we are all ready to go. It happens at the beginning of every wedding season and will always happen.  It has to be perfect; we can’t miss a thing; we have to be on our A game.

My first wedding of the season did not disappoint; it was perfect! Although it was a little warm, especially since it was a destination wedding and no one was from Phoenix, weddings at the Four Seasons Resort Troon North are always wonderful; And when you add a gorgeous Bride and a dashing chap Groom all the way from England, it couldn’t get any better.  Laurie and Dan are just one of those couples that you can’t help but love! Their smiles brighten up a room and their love for each other is so evident in everything they do.

They actually have a really fun story of how they met. Laurie’s best friend met her husband in England and he was friends with Dan. Laurie’s friend introduced Dan to Laurie and the rest was history. The two guys from England moved over to the US and married the beautiful girls. Sounds like a fairy tale to me and when you see Laurie and Dan together, you actually feel like you are in a Fairy Tale!!

Of course, this day wouldn’t have been anything without the help from Laurie and Dan’s amazing vendors. I have to give a huge shout out to everyone who put this together and made this such a wonderful day for these two.

Venue:  Four Seasons Resort Troon North

When I first met with Laurie she secretly showed me her dress and I was stunned. It was gorgeous and I couldn’t wait to see her in it.

These earnings were a gift from their Jeweler. He let them borrow them for the wedding and they were STUNNING on her.

The Flower Studio did an amazing job on the flowers. Laurie was thrilled when she saw them.

I love moments between sisters.

KB always gets the greatest shots of the guys!

They went wine tasting.. why do the guys always get off easy at the weddings? The girls slave and slave and the guys go and taste wine… so not fair:)

First looks are my favorite part of the day and this first look was one of the best i’ve ever seen. Laurie cried the instant she saw Dan, which made all of us start balling.. Jenny was on the steps just wiping the tears as they streamed down. This is why I LOVE first looks!

And then we headed into Portrait time. Mind you, it was 110 outside and everyone was dripping sweat.. we did quite a few inside!

This was a MUST HAVE shot for Laurie!

LOVE this angle KB got. I was down below shooting an entirely different thing.

The Flower girls were so stinkin cute!

Loved the details!

Little kids were all over and they were hilarious!

I love it when the Zurg makes an appearance at weddings. He totally helped entertain the kiddo’s along with the entire Toy Story Crew.

Isn’t Laurie’s laugh and smile contagious?

The reception was beautiful! Also, FYI, The Four Seasons makes the BEST cakes… they are always stunning!

It was a group of party dancers. The dance floor was ALWAYS filled! Great job to Mancini Entertainment for some amazing DJ power!

I had to include this picture of Cake Cutting because I LOVE the angle KB got.

While looking through the images I found a few that KB snuck of me… I thought I would share:)

What to Wear: To An Interview

Did you all miss me last week?!   I can’t believe I didn’t blog last Friday!  After our Boudoir Bonanza and living at the Valley Ho all that weekend and coming back to the studio to sort 15,000 pictures (not an exaggeration, there were 15,000 pictures), I drove straight to San Diego and slept until this Tuesday.  Again, not an exaggeration.  BUT I’m back and let’s get back to fashion, people!

Continuing in my “What to Wear” series, I thought we should discuss interview attire, as next week we will be interviewing our intern applicants (of which I love them all and I know I will be unable to choose.  Trying to convince Kim we need 15 interns) Interviewing can be seriously nerve-wracking, so the last thing you should worry about is your outfit!  Here are some easy rules to check off when dressing to impress:

Dress for the Industry

Interview at Chanel                                                 Interview at the rodeo

If you’re applying at the Chanel fashion house, you better make sure your labels, stitches, and lining are all in tip-top order.  If you’re interviewing at a nursery, you might want to look kid-friendly.  If you’re interviewing to be a Lady Gaga back up dancer, leave your pants at home.  You see where I’m headed with this?  Don’t show up at a small, grassroots social service agency helping homeless teens in a $5,000 Versace dress.   Similarly, don’t go try to clerk for a Supreme Court judge in distressed denim.  It’s all about knowing your audience.  So, let’s say you are off to interview with the coolest photography studio in town, that employs a fashion blog writer–what should you wear?  Something you look cute in, but more importantly feel cute in!  Also, remember it’s an interview.  I’m sure you have an amazing array of cutoffs and flip-flops, but this is not the time to show them off, sweetie. Show off your best working girl attire, and it won’t go unnoticed!

Wear a Watch

On time, never a bad look!

You know what looks great on a potential employee?  Punctuality.  I love watches, they are my only accessory most of the time, but I think there is something subliminal about wearing a watch to an interview.  It says, “Hey, I notice and adhere to the laws of time and space.”  I like that in an interviewee, as I’m sure most people do.  A watch looks professional and even if that person interviewing you doesn’t realize it, it’s sending a message that you can be aware of the time, and hopefully that translates to punctuality.

Dressy Shoes

So hired.

I don’t care where you’re applying, your feet need to say, “Business.”  I love Chuck Taylors, I love ballet flats, and I loooooooovvvveeee flip-flops, but you just can’t wear these to interviews.  Your feet need to be all business.  High heels are the fastest way to add some seriousness to an outfit, and if you’re a man, don’t come in sneakers!  Dressed-up shoes are almost mandatory in my opinion.  I doubt anyone’s ever been hired for a great job in hiking boots.  (Ok, please don’t place a comment on here about your cousin Steve who became a world-class hiking instructor after wearing his Timberlands to an interview, you all know what I’m saying here)

Appropriate Clothing

They all look great, they all look appropriate, they are all getting jobs.

Look in the mirror before leaving your house for the interview and make sure the answer is NO to the following questions:  Is my cleavage showing?  Is this too tight?  Is my stomach showing?  Is this see-through?  Are there any visible tears or holes in this?  Does this fit me?  Did I grab this from my daughter’s closet?  Would an adult wear this?  Would my mother slap me for wearing this?  Are these heels clear?  Are my facial piercings distracting?  Is my full-sleeve tattoo showing?  The very last thing you want, the dead last thing you want, in an interview, is for the people sitting across from you with the questions to be wondering if you came from a night club.  Or a street corner.  Or a dog fight.  Sexuality is powerful, but not in an interview.  Of course you should always look like your amazingly hot self, but you really don’t want to be hired by the person that appreciated the eyeful he/she got in your interview.  I promise, if you listen to nothing else in this post, listen to this paragraph.  You should look professional, and professional has never meant provocative.  Ever.

Good luck on the interviews my friends!  You all look SMASHING!

Christa Scott - Great post Jenny! My favorite line… “Are these heels clear?” ohhh… love it!

One Year Cuteness | Scottsdale Kid and Baby Photographer

I love it when I get calls from Industry friends who want me to take pictures of their family! I’m totally honored when this happens and especially when it involves cute little darlings like this one. Little Miss B actually turned one almost a year ago… that’s when I actually did this session, but I’m trying to finally blog some of the images. Miguel, an amazing guitarist and industry friend, and his wife Kim were married at the Royal Palms Resort, so this is where we actually went to take these beautiful pictures of little Miss B.

She did such a great job and is so adorable. These are some of my very favorite pictures!! I wanted to make sure that they did get shared, even though in a few months she actually turns 2 (woops:)).

Thanks you guys!!

courtney & josh | san diego associate photographer

Courtney and Josh’s ceremony was perched on the edge of San Diego’s gorgeous Sunset Cliffs overlooking the open ocean and crashing waves below.  The wedding party arrived in style in a bus-sized woody and made their way down the winding belt of sea sand and beach foliage to the cluster of white chairs and smiling faces of family and friends. The reception followed at The Dana at Mission Bay with teary-eyed toasts, crazy dancing ((craaazy!)), and even some accidental head banging. What a joyful, free-spirited, party of a wedding! We’re so lucky and grateful to have been a part of it…
