Steve and Stephanie | Grayhawk Golf Club {Posted by KJ}

A few weeks ago Steve and Stephanie got married at the Grayhawk Golf Club. I’d been anticipating this wedding for quite some time now as I’ve totally had a wonderful time getting to know both Steve and Stephanie. They are a wonderful couple and from day one, when they came into the studio to chat with me about their wedding, I’ve always said how excited I was for their wedding.

Steve and Stephanie have known each other forever! They went to High School together and Steve had a major crush on Stephanie all the way through. They went their separate paths and then a few years ago met up again and the rest is history!

The wedding day was perfect! Stephanie got ready at the Montelucia Resort, while Steve got ready at Grayhawk Golf Club. I hung out with the girls, while KB hung out with the guys. The ceremony and reception were at Grayhawk Golf Club, which has become one of my favorite places to shoot lately. Stephanie wore the most amazing dress and had such a wonderful hair piece. She looked GORGEOUS!! The details were beautiful and perfect!! They even had an amazing candy bar at the reception (they are complete lovers of all things sweet!)

As always lately, we had an amazing team of vendors and I must share with you all who they were!!

Venue: Grayhawk Golf Club
Officiant: Joel Bjerkestrand
Florist: Blume Events LLC
Cake Artist: Honeymoon Sweets
Hair Stylist/Makeup Artist: Sheryl w/ Steven J Paul Salon
Musician/DJ: Ray the DJ
Gown Boutique: Destiny’s Bride
Videographer: Serendipity Videography

I LOVED All the details from Stephanie’s getting ready portion of the day!! Amazing. I am so in love with this hanger. They had it made off of Etsy.com!

Didn’t Stephanie look amazing?

I love this series with Steve and his brother.

Seriously? Look at her? Steve is one lucky man!!

The Beautiful Girls!

Look at these amazing details!

Isn’t this little one adorable?

I love this series with Steve’s guys walking up. They all gave him a hug!

The reaction to seeing his bride! Gotta love it!

Tender moments.

Kids are so much fun to watch at weddings!

The walking back down the aisle shots are my FAVORITE!

Wonderful Portrait time!! We did all the portraits after the wedding and were really strapped for time. Thankfully we were able to get through all the family and wedding party pictures and got some wonderful images of Stephanie and Steve!

I love this shot KB got.

The reception was decorated beautifully!

And look at this candy bar? AMAZING!

First Dance.

Stephanie is a teacher and all her kids made this for her. How sweet!

The kids had a great time dancing!

I told you Grayhawk is gorgeous!

Thanks Stephanie and Steve, you both are amazing!!

I had to include some great pictures of us in action, including Andy with Serendipity!!

Sweet Mary!

And yours truly:)

Why I Heart Taylor Swift and All She Wears

Is everyone else listening to the new Taylor Swift CD Speak Now, as much as I am?!  I know, I know, I turned 30 on Tuesday (yikes! that’s the first time I’ve said that sentence!!!) and I suppose I should grow out of Taylor Swift, I suppose she’s geared toward girls half my age (how can there be girls HALF my age that are old enough to do anything???), and yes, some people think she’s lame/cutesey/bubble gum pop–but you know what?  You’re all just mean (sorry, I have Track #6 on repeat right now).  It doesn’t mean I don’t still know every lyric to every Ani Difranco song, or that I’ve retired my Dr. Dre The Chronic on my playlist, but her music is super fun and I love it and so there!  🙂 But besides the deep-rooted love of her goofy, light, fun music, I LOVE the way she looks every single time I see her!!!!  I was going through her CD cover last night (that KB got me for my birthday!  And Heidi Bartlett also got me the CD, and so did my sister…but KB got there first) and I am so in love with her entire look on every single page.  I know she must have a stylist/fashion consultant/slave, but it’s more than the clothes.  This is why I love T.S. and all she does with her look:

She’s Always Just Who She Is

Taylor Swift is a long-limbed, gangly, kind of awkward, small-chested, crazy-haired, pale, blonde girl. And man, does she do that look well!!!  She doesn’t dye her hair some far out color, she doesn’t let someone spend 50 hours flat-ironing it, she doesn’t wear outfits to enhance her small bustline, she doesn’t try to hide her gawkiness.  That girl just owns it, and it’s GORGEOUS!  Every time I see her I think about all the times I’m wishing I had dark hair and tan skin, dark eyes I can wear tons of black eyeliner with, less freakishly long limbs, curvier curves, a different nose/lips/etc, and I feel like I could learn a lesson from her.  I’m sure she goes through all of that too, but I love that she isn’t hiding or changing any of those things.  There’s no plastic surgery happening on her, there’s no huge hair change going against her natural look, there’s no huge construction of outfits to hide her shape–it’s all just Taylor Swift looking like Taylor Swift.  I love it.  It reminds me that we all look best looking like ourselves, and we should just own it.  Short?  Red-headed?  Blue eyes?  Brown eyes?  Big nose?  Short hair?  Long arms?  Whoever said there was only one “pretty” out there??

She Remembers Her Audience

Taylor Swift, even with all her mainstream fame, is still a country artist, and she doesn’t forget that.  I’ve yet to see her strut out on stage in some crazy rocker, edgy, asymmetrical hairdo and bad girl makeup (unless it’s a spoof).  She usually rocks boots and a dress, long hair everywhere.  She remembers her audience, and I think a lot of people forget to do this.  I hate when I’m at a wedding and I see someone there in gross jeans and a t-shirt–like, really?  Also, I hate it when I’m at a dive bar and I see a girl in a micro-mini and sky-high heels, like, REALLY?  I truly believe your attitude changes with your clothing choices, and if you’re choosing to dress completely inappropriately then your attitude is going to follow.  Work clothes, play clothes, fancy clothes, funny clothes, sexy clothes–know the time and place.  Know your audience.

She Plays

Have you ever looked at a Taylor Swift album or her videos?  She loves dress up as much as I do, and it’s so fun!  Recently my little sister and I drove past some country bar in the West Valley and heard amazing music coming out, so we ran home, put on boots and dresses and headed back up there to dance–I’m telling you the clothes were imperative to our plans.  Were we really going to get into random old cowboys spinning us around a sawdust dance floor in little black dresses?  No way! Would any of my Vegas adventures have happened if I was wearing boring jeans and a tank top?  I HIGHLY doubt it!  Clothes are so fun, dressing up is so fun, I think being grown-up is only acceptable if you can still find your goofy side when the moment calls for it.  (And in case you’re wondering, driving past a country bar blaring Brooks and Dunn is always the moment)

Sigh, I love her.  I wish she’d date me and then write a song about me.

xoxo,

Heidi @ idieh | design - JP, you already know my thoughts on this girl. I want to be her when I grow up. And, if I could just have one HALF of her dress & boot collection, I would be one happy little chica. Can’t wait for you and I to debut her song “Mean” at open mic night (a.k.a. karaoke).

Ok, now onto the amazing portraits and also their amazing party!!

I wasn’t able to attend the cocktail hour because we were out taking pictures during it, but Kadie and Suzanne got some amazing shots and i’m so thankful they were there to capture these!

Look at this cutie pie!! What an amazing shot that that Kadie got!

During Cocktail hour we headed out amongst the grounds at the Montelucia and took wedding party pictures! I LOVE this shot KB got.

The guys shoes, and our beautiful Bride’s were AMAZING!

Beautiful group!

And now to my favorite part of the day…. Portraits!!!

I get excited when I get to pull out the lights and get a little creative! The next few are some of my favorites EVER!

NEW FAVS!

Love these too! It was pitch black outside and these were taken through a mirror. Total fun!

The reception was AMAZING! I know I keep saying that, but wait until you see these detail pictures! Cathy and Andy hired someone to come in and light the room… ummmm can you say jaw dropping gorgeous??

Thanks to Kadie, we were able to get a ton of amazing details while we were out shooting the Bride and Groom, these are  few of my favorites that she captured.

Isn’t this amazing?

Let the PARTY begin!

Most weddings have a grand entrance, a first dance, toasts, then dinner, all within about 15 minutes of each other… this wedding was totally different… Once they walked in, everyone joined them on the dancefloor and they all danced for over an hour before anyone even thought about food! I’ve never seen so much dancing my entire life at a wedding.

A view from the outside!

Kadie got these 1st dance shots and I was BLOWN away by them and wish I could call them my own… but alas, I must give her credit. Aren’t they amazing?

It was a fun fun fun night… lots of dancing and fun!

Thank you Cathy and Andy  for allowing us to be a part of your wedding. We had the GREATEST time and can’t wait to do more things with you!

—————————————-

Every once in awhile we get some fun shots of the team and I just wanted to share a couple of my favs from this wedding!

Yes, I know i’m a total dork and Suzanne agrees!

My girl KB and I… Love this shot, thanks Kadie!

Kathy + Andy : Part 1

So, we’ve all decided at the studio that we need to photograph more Jordanian weddings. They are AMAZING!!!!

On 10.10.10 Kathy and Andy partied like we’ve never seen before, then exchanged vows and then partied even more. Jordanian weddings are just one big wonderful and amazing celebration and the party starts early in the morning and truly never ends. I’ve never seen so much dancing and singing. After 14 hours of shooting and 11,000 pictures later ( yes you heard me right), our team of 6 (yes 6) all left with huge smiles on our faces because of the wonderful day we had with Kathy and Andy, and their families. Because we took so many pictures, this blog post is actually going to be broken up into 2 posts.

I was so thankful to have an amazing team this day. Our beautiful bride hired 3 photographers and an assistant. After I had talked to her more about her wedding I decided to add some more help since this was our 3rd wedding in 4 days and it was going to be a long day, so in total there were 6 of us on our team. I have to give a big shout out to the girls who helped!! KB, JennyP, Briana (our new intern), Kadie Pangburn, and Suzanne Melissa. They all did so great and after looking through the pictures, i’m thrilled!!!

I also have to give a big shout out to the amazing vendors who made this event happen. It was spectacular.

Florist: The Flower Studio: www.flowerstudioaz.com
Cake: Elegant Cake Creations: www.elegantcakecreations.com

The day started at the parents house. I and Kadie hung out with Kathy and her family while KB and Suzanne went over and hung out with Andy and his family. At both houses there were major parties going on. The culture is amazing and totally family oriented. Everyone comes over to the house and helps with preparations. On the girls side, they helped with getting ready and then once the bride was dressed they went downstairs and literally danced, beat a drum, and sang. For the guys, all the men actually helped get Andy dressed, while they danced and sang and beat a drum. It was so wonderful.

2 new favorite dress shots!

This is a favorite that Kadie got for me. Kathy’s sister was such a huge help, plus she is my biggest fan, so of course I love her too!! I love all the pictures of the two of them together, because it is so evident how special they are to each other.

Love these images… mom and sister helping out.

Another FAV!!

A text message from a friend who couldn’t make it!

Aren’t the girls beautiful?

LOVE!!!!

This is one of the hardest things about this wedding; I got a call from the bride about 2 weeks before the wedding letting me know that her dad had a heart attack and was in critical condition. He was unable to actually make it to the wedding and it crushed EVERYONE. In memory of him, she put his name on her arm and wore that the entire day.

Sisters!!!

The guys have an interesting tradition too. It’s pretty neat, but all the men actually get together and dress the groom. While it’s happening dancing and singing are everywhere. The girls said that it was AMAZING!!

Andy looked sharp!

Once the Bride was dressed the real party started! Look at all this dancing!! It went on for hours!

Couldn’t resist showing off these cuties.

Once everyone is ready the groom goes off to the church while the groom’s family comes over to the Bride’s house and asks for her hand in marriage to the groom. They have a big ceremony and drink coffee and dance more.

From where I was located during this ceremony I could see a picture of the Bride’s dad through the priest and the Groom’s family members. It was like he was there in the room with them and I felt like this was a really important and special picture.

Outside of the church more dancing and singing went on! Seriously, no one came into the church until it was just time to start, everyone was outside dancing!!

The church was beautiful and there were some amazing details.

The Bride with her brother and mother, right before walking down. Suzanne got this AMAZING image.

Love the shot of Andy looking down the aisle, and even more the fact that his dad is giving a thumbs up!!

There are SOOO many more pictures to come, so get ready for tomorrow. This is only a taste of what is to come… the Reception was breathtaking, as were the portraits of Kathy and Andy!!

Photo Shoot Time!

So I have the fastest post ever this week because right now we are on our way for our team photo shoot (shot by the amazing Largo Photography) at the State Fair!  So, you guys should know what WE’RE like on the day of a photo shoot when we’re the subjects!

KJ Team Trait #1:  We all freak out over clothes.

Kim Bee called to beg me to bring extra clothes to the studio, Mary and Christa are emailing like crazy on what all they should bring, Kim Jarman has been out shopping and trying things on for me to double check, and pretty much my entire closet was brought to the studio today.  None of us know what we’re wearing, and we’re all picking and choosing from each other’s clothing, and we’re all frantically trying to pose in various ways in 18 different pairs of jeans in front of a mirror.  Yep, just like everyone else, we have no idea what to wear either.

KJ Team Trait #2:  We all freak out over our hair.

I have now heard hair comments from every girl on this team, at least once (except Christa now that I think about it…but Christa has a rockin’ haircut so that’s probably why).  I brought an arsenal of heat styling tools and bobby pins.  KJ got her hair freshly done and I talked to KB this morning while she was blowdrying her also newly colored hair.  Yep, just like everyone else, we have no idea what do with our hair.

KJ Team Trait #3:  We all freak out over makeup.

Lucky for us, Sara San Marco is on her way to save the day in this regard.  If we were left to our own devices, we’d all have lost sleep last night over the idea of our faces on film with all the wrong makeup.  Yep, just like you, we have no idea what to do with our makeup.

The point of this post?  We understand.  It’s good for us to be on this end of the camera sometimes, because we really do know how hard and stressful and scary it can be to try to get it all right in front of the camera.  I’m hoping by the end of the day we’re all like Mary, though, as she seems to really just enjoy it, have confidence in her beauty, and have a good time.  She’s one the of the few people I know, besides Christa actually, that I never hear those very common girl statements of insecurity, “I look fat” “I hate my hair” “My skin is a wreck today”.  I’m going to try super-hard to be like them and just like the way I look in these pictures…..after Sara does magic on my face, the girls approve my outfit, and my hair lies just so.  🙂

xoxo
