JennyP’s Top 10 Wedding Moments!

Oh my goodness, as if I could EVER pick just ten favorite pictures of all our wonderful brides, grooms, maid’s of honor, groomsmen (we’ve had some mighty cute groomsmen!), little bitty flower girls, and tearfilled-hilarious-emotional-over-the-top moments all captured perfectly by the amazing team of chicks behind our cameras!

I wanted to do a post on my favorite wedding shots, but it’s really impossible to put ALL of our wedding pictures up (which is what I would do if time and uploading abilities were unlimited in my world), so I shut my eyes and the first images that came into my mind, without looking at the past calendar or anything else, are what I’m posting here.  Of all our gorgeous weddings that I’ve been SO honored to be a part of, these ten images stand out in my mind the most.

It’s hard to say what it is about these ten, as I’m so involved with our brides and grooms and their families, and I’m so emotional on many of their days, that maybe it’s the feeling they gave me that day, the feeling I have when I look at them now, or just the sheer beauty of a great shot.  Whatever it is, these shots move me.

**Disclaimer: If you’re one of our beloved couples and you’re not in the Top 10 image list below, you’re ALWAYS in the top of my heart!  Out of the 345,355,959 weddings we shot this year, I could only pick ten!  Be kind!** 🙂

**Disclaimer 2:  I ONLY put pics taken by KJ or KB, not the amazing Mary or Christa, or any other esteemed shooters we’ve been lucky enough to work with, because it was easier this way! If I could, I’d put up my Top 500!**

(Ps–I titled these myself…just in case you’re wondering who named these so aptly) 😉

1.  Genetics at it’s Best

Oh how I love this picture!  What this family was dealt in DNA is surely unfair, as all these girls were simply stunning (4 sisters + 1 friend)!  I love this shot, against the dramatic curtains of the Valley Ho penthouse. This wedding was the first one I assisted at for the studio, and it’s special to me!  Made me cry more than once!

2. Big Sky Kissing

How pretty are these pictures!  (OK, so I snuck in two here, but they’re joined together!) I LOVE Courtney and Josh, and KB and I had so much fun in San Diego shooting this wedding that everything about their pics makes me smile, but my choice here is just because I think these shots are gorgeous. Look at that sky!

3. Modeling by the Wall

Laurie is hot, Dave is adorable, the couple are super fun–love this picture!!  This was at the Phoenix Art Museum and this wedding was a BLAST!  Mary and I danced all night at the reception, and this picture makes me just want to go back to that fun day! I love Laurie’s movement and Dave’s face SO MUCH!

4.  Cara’s Hot Shoes

Detail shots are not always the most moving, but there is just something about Cara’s amazing hot pink heels that always pops into my mind!  We had a great time at her wedding, and these shoes, while torture devices on her poor feet, were every bit as dazzling in person!

5. Sweetest Kiss Ever

Oh my goodness, when I went through this set of wedding pictures, I could not get over how so in love this couple looked! I loved this picture so much that I kept going back to it, over and over, to just see it again.  It’s so perfect, her leg bent, the big sky, ohhhhh I love it.

6.  Starry, Starry Kiss

A + A’s wedding was UNBELIEVABLE in so many ways! The culture, the music, the dancing, the amazing families–I loved everything about this day! I wasn’t with Kim when she shot this particular image, so I was completely blown away when I saw it later, it’s just so very remarkable!

7.  The Flying V

Oh these boys were so funny!  Groomsmen are not typically excited to get a million pictures taken, but these guys kept us VERY entertained. Calling this picture formation “The Flying V” we were all cracking up by the time we finished their shoot. Love it, love Sean’s face, loved the whole experience on that lawn. Hilarious.

8.  The National Geographic Tryout

I told KB, after seeing this shot, that she’s in the wrong form of photography. This is so breathtaking, from our San Diego wedding with Courtney and Josh, that every time I see it, I’m transported. She should be working for National Geographic Magazine, in my opinion.

9.  Make Mama Smell Nice

I wanted to be IN this family, that’s how lovely they were! Jennifer and Sean were married, including her two sweetie daughters in every step, and I love, love, LOVE this shot of Jennifer getting her perfume spray from her littlest one. It doesn’t get any sweeter in my opinion!

10. Veiled

Is there anything prettier than Heather in this picture?  I can’t even say more, every time I look at this shot, my heart melts a little.  I think it’s incredibly beautiful!

So we had QUITE the year, and it looks like you did too!  There were so many more moments we were lucky enough to be there to catch, and when I look back at our 2010, even just in these ten pictures, I’m really proud.  Happy, Happy, Happiest New Year everyone!

(PS- they say what you’re doing at midnight New Year’s Eve is reflective of your year to come, um…Kim, KB, Briana, and I will be working at a wedding…I’d say that’s accurate! Early congrats to Theresa and Paul–we’re all set to spend our last 2010 moments with you guys! ) 🙂

‘Twas the Night–TONIGHT!

Oh my goodness you have no idea, NO idea how much I love Christmas!  My birthday is November 2, and I celebrate it every year by putting up my Christmas tree and having my family and friends over for a turkey dinner, because in JennyPland, my birthday signifies the start of the Christmas season!

Here’s my one thing though: I think Christmas Day is a little sad, because as each minute ticks away, the day is leaving 🙁  SO, in my opinion, today is the greatest day of the entire year.  Christmas Eve is the most magical day ever, in my opinion, because you’re so eager, so anxious, so happy, and so excited for what’s still to come!  I think anticipation is glorious and there is no anticipation greater than the night before Christmas!  So we’re hoping to send some eager, anxious, giddy, snuggly, warm, and loving Christmas Eve thoughts your way today!  And just in case you need an extra push, remember this one thing if you’re in the midst of holiday stress, or feeling slightly blue this Christmas:  no matter what you have or haven’t got, little children all over the world are going to sleep with eager smiles and beating hearts tonight with thoughts of Santa Claus in their little minds, and that energy alone is enough to lift all of our spirits!

THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS
by Clement Clarke Moore
or Henry Livingston

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house

Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,

In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;

And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,

Had just settled down for a long winter’s nap,

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I flew like a flash,

Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow

Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer,

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,

I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.

More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,

And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

“Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!

On, Comet! on Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen!

To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!

Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!”

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,

When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,

So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,

With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof

The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.

As I drew in my head, and was turning around,

Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,

And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;

A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,

And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes — how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!

His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!

His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,

And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,

And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath;

He had a broad face and a little round belly,

That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,

And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,

Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,

And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,

And laying his finger aside of his nose,

And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,

And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,

“Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good-night.”

I’m always happy to shoot at Villa Sienna because of it’s lush vine walls, sunbursts of light spilling into the courtyards, and Tuscan style columns and draperies every which way you turn. I was even more excited to shoot there on Libby and Scott’s wedding day because they are genuinely the sweetest couple in the world. Congratulations and a thousand hugs, you two! I hope you’re having a cozy snuggly newlywed Christmas!

Many thanks to the hard working vendor team:

Libby - Yay!!! They are so awesome! Can’t wait to see the rest. Thanks KB!

Family Pics of the Jarmans – On the other side of the camera.

So, every year I decide to go onto the other side of the camera and get pictures taken of my family. Really, it’s been the last two years that we’ve “professionally” gotten pictures taken. So far i’ve been photographed by my amazing friends both Jennifer Bowen and KB. Both of which did AMAZING jobs. However, this year I wanted to do something totally different than I have ever done before. I wanted to be photographed by someone I didn’t know, whose work I admired, and wanted it to be at Disneyland…..For this shoot I contacted the AMAZING and ever so talented Ohana Photographers out of San Diego.

To be honest I was scared out of my mind. My husband noticed it mostly the day of, and I have to admit, it’s really hard being the client. I was anxious.. i’d never been photographed by someone who I didn’t know, I paid for the session (not a trade), I had only communicated with Ohana via email and twitter, I had stalked their blog and prayed our images were as cool as others they had done. It was an insane time getting ready for this. BUT i’m so glad that I have ventured to the other side because honestly I need to be reminded all the time what it feels like to be photographed. It feels awkward, good, and fun all at the same time.

My experience was great and I fell in love with Ohana. They were great to work with and put their entire heart and soul into the whole shoot. Their turn around time was amazing, and they gave me a sneak peak of an image within about 24 hours… i actually almost gave my husband a heart attack when I got the twitter that it was ready; he thought i was dying or something. I learned that when you are a client you WANT to see the pictures NOW!

That being said, we are going to work harder at showing all of you your images sooner and at least a sneak peak. I took that away from this experience and I think it will make you all much happier!!

Again, I have to thank Ohana Photographers. David and Kim were awesome to work with and i’m SOOOO in love with the images. They also brought their beautiful daughter, Rain, with them and it was so much fun having her there with us.

That being said, here you go!! Enjoy a peek into our lives!

I loved how David and Kim wandered around Disneyland to find our initials… amazing creativity!!

She’s pretty serious into the driving thing:)

Love the one on the left the most…. Smiles!!

As I tell all of my clients, be sure to bring bribery… this worked perfectly.. .M&M’s… her favorite. We got a lot of pictures out of one bag.

This was our 4th trip to disneyland this year with Kailee and we’ve been hoping and praying that she would grow enough to be able to go on a roller coaster. Well she hit her mark this time and at 35 inches (exactly) she was able to go on her first roller coaster. David caught the whole thing… hands raised and all! She also went on the Matterhorn, which is the big white gigantic mountain. She LOVED it, but when we asked her if she wanted to go again she said, “That was fun, but i’m all done… that was scary”. I love it!

This series is some of my favorite!

With an outfit change we found some more places.

Love how Jamie is being the protective father… put that skirt down!

Pirates of the Caribbean is one of Kailee’s favorite rides so we headed over that way, but the park was PACKED, so we hung out at the Dream Suites instead.

One of the things I LOVE about a good photographer is that I never saw this angle when we sat down, but I LOVE how David and Kim captured the sign in the picture as well… it’s so Disney.

Another picture that I saw David taking at the end of the shoot and I almost told him that he didn’t have to keep shooting… we were all kinda done with pictures, but I’m so glad he kept going, because this is a pure true moment that I LOVE of Kailee. Awe and wonder at all the toys.

I LOVE THIS!

This is the sneak peak that they shared with me and I will blow this up HUGE somewhere because it’s so us. Kailee’s new thing is “lickeys’ and she loves to lick her daddy. This is SO us!

We introduced David, Kim and Rain to Cafe Orleans, which is an amazing little find across from the pirates. They have Monte Cristo sandwiches, which are to die for! Funny story on this, the fire alarm went off twice while we were eating here and we had to be evacuated. By the 2nd time luckily we were pretty much finished and they just told everyone to leave if they were done. Free meals always make me happy:)

While we were in San Francisco this last year we bought Kailee this Frog hat and I LOVE it. I’m so glad we were able to use it in pictures.

Another favorite moment was when the princess came out and they caught this amazing special moment with all of us looking at the princess. Amazing!

A few shots with Baby, Kailee’s favorite!

The shot on the left will be put above my desk in my office in a large canvas. It’s gorgeous and i’m IN LOVE with it!!!

Lastly, a FAVORITE of my baby girl. Man, I LOVE this one!

Thank you David, Kim, and Rain. You were amazing to work with and I appreciate EVERYTHING!

Inspired Style

Don’t you love the word inspiration? Don’t you love the meaning of the word inspire?  In case you’re unaware, this is the Webster Dictionary definition of both words:

Inspire:

a : to influence, move, or guide by divine or supernatural inspiration

b : to exert an animating, enlivening, or exalting influence on

c : to spur on, impel, motivate, affect

Inspiration:

a : a divine influence or action on a person believed to qualify him or her to receive and communicate sacred revelation

b : the action or power of moving the intellect or emotions
Man, could anything sound better???  Aren’t we all striving to feel affected, motivated, or moved?  I love the part that says “to exert an animated, enlivening, or exalting influence on”—what else do humans want but to feel that way???  I think this crosses over into everything in your life.  If you feel inspired in your work, your relationships, your family, your goals–then you’re innately finding inner happiness.  If you can find a way to feel inspired in all aspects of your life, I think you are incredibly lucky and really living to the fullest.  I also think if you can feel inspired about your clothes, and your appearance, it’s adding to your happiness!  We’ve all stood at the closet and just slumped our shoulders thinking, “I’ve got nothing to wear!”  That’s not inspiring.  So let’s talk about how you CAN get some style inspiration, and a little more bounce in your stylish step.
Recognize what Inspires YOU
For me, I live in fashion magazines.  I read more fashion magazines than I’d ever care to admit, even if I’m not out buying couture, I am drawn to the beautiful models and beautiful clothing like Martha Stewart is drawn to home products.  Kim Jarman gets tons of inspiration from seeing creative photography work that she respects, as well as talking to business people and girlfriends that she respects.  Our lovely intern Briana turns to music every time when she needs inspiration (actually, so do Kim and I, and if you’re ever near our office you will here so much music pouring out it’s ridiculous, usually with us dancing in our chairs and singing loudly).  So pinpoint what really gets you pumped up.  Is it church on Sunday?  Is it a book you can read over and over to get you in the mood to change your life?  Is it a long run?  Whatever it is that gets you going, really recognize it’s force in your life and understand that these are the things you can turn to to get your inspiration flowing.
Fashion magazines, music, and Kelly Moore Photography get us going in the studio!
Find Role Models
Everyone needs a person to look up to, regardless of how old you are, and in all areas of your life.  I look up to my friend Nicole for her incredible style and beauty (inner and outer), I look up to KJ for her constant forward motion toward success, I look up to KB for her devotion to family, I look up to Mary for her strong faith, I look up to my mom for her resilience and constant love, I look up to my brother for his incredible humor and way of making people laugh, the list goes on and on and on.  You need to seek out these people!  Lately I’ve been looking at my life and trying to seek out relationships in areas I’m not so good at (for me, money flows out of my hands like water, so I’ve recently signed up for savings and investment classes for women, in hopes of finding a “money role model”).  It’s why working out with a friend proves so successful, and it’s why just about every single wildly successful person you hear of always recognizes someone who “got them there”.  Everyone needs role models, and this includes style role models!  You probably already have them, even if you don’t realize it.  That celebrity you are always drawn to, that singer you are always envying in pictures, that hairstyle you keep going back to that just happens to look just like that one movie star you wish you looked like.  We all have them, both famous and not-so-famous, the people we consciously or unconsciously copy and mimic.
Audrey (for everything), Kate Beckinsale (for hair), Kate Moss (for sex appeal), Katie Holmes (for perfection), Reese Witherspoon (not just style, her whole life direction and attitude!), the entire Gossip Girl cast (for trends), and Jennifer Aniston (for taste) are my style inspirations!
Make an Inspiration Board (at home and at work!)
There is nothing quite like being visually prompted subconsciously daily to the goals you want to achieve.  It’s a proven fact, in a million studies, that if you hang a picture of what you want in a place you’ll see it every day, you are much more likely to achieve it.  You will start positioning your life toward that goal, even if you aren’t conscious of the fact that you’re doing things to get closer to it, just by seeing it every day.  So, knowing this, you need to make an inspiration board!  Articles, pictures, phrases, anything you can hang up in a spot you see daily to keep prompting inspiration and motion in your life.  If you’re not able to hang up in your office (as I’m lucky enough to do), then make it a collage on your computer desktop screen, a small version sitting on your desk, or dude just cover your car dashboard in it because you’ll see it every time you’re in your car!  After you take care of a spot for your work day, make one at home.  Plaster your refrigerator with images, your bathroom mirror, hang a bulletin board up in your office, whatever it takes!  I have phrases across my bathroom mirror, pictures I love on my fridge, and I’m making a corkboard wall (like the one I have at work) for my bedroom. It’s important, and the best way to start reaching goals, even if it’s as basic as “I want to look hotter in general”.  It’s attainable!  Just get that motivation to make the changes you need!
My inspiration board at the studio, filling slowly (it’s new!).  That bottom right corner?  The women that inspire me–ahem, Madonna.

These people know how to make an inspiration board!  All shapes, all forms, all kinds of inspiration!
Hope I’ve inspired you today to get moving on this!
