Sondra + Greg | Part 1

Posted and Photographed by Kimberly Jarman

I just typed up this amazing thing about Sondra and Greg and it got deleted… ahh technology:( So here we go again!!!

Sondra and Greg are an awesome couple. When I very first met Sondra I kinda had a girl crush:) She is so nice, beautiful, and totally sweet! We hit it off and i’m so glad she hired me!!

When I met Greg at their engagement session I was so excited for the wedding because they really are a fun and amazing couple!

The wedding party didn’t disappoint either. Pretty much one of the funnest wedding parties we’ve ever had. They were all so nice and so much fun! Sondra and Greg had warned us that they were a blast and it was going to be a great party. They weren’t lying!!

The ceremony was at Saint Mary’s Basilica in downtown Phoenix and the reception was at the gorgeous Arizona Biltmore. The Details and decor were AMAZING and the day was perfect! I have to thank the wonderful Jen Thye with Imoni Events for knocking this one out of the park. It was truly wonderful and I she made the day so great. If you ever wonder if you need a wedding coodinator for your wedding, let me tell you that YOU DO!!!! They truly make a huge difference!!

As with all of our amazing weddings, they wouldn’t be possible without the team of incredible vendors that help to create the day!  A huge thank you goes out to:

Venue: Arizona Biltmore

Coordinator: Imoni Events

Officiant + Ceremony Site: Saint Mary’s Basilica

Florist: Laura’s Custom Designs

Hair and Makeup: Dolce Salon and Spa at the Borgata

DJ: Ray the DJ

Videography: My Wedding Film

Gown: Maggie Sottero

Invitations: Definitely Debra

We had so many great pictures that i’m actually going to do parts for this wedding. My girls who helped me out were amazing and I am so happy with the pictures that we all got. I’ve credited all the girls for their work, so you can see it below. A huge thank you to Mary, Suzanne, Becky, and Elise for helping me out!!

I LOVED Sondra’s dress!!

Laura’s Custom Designs did a wonderful job on the flowers.

We started off with the guys. Suzanne and Mary got some fun shots of them.

These guys were characters!!

The details were amazing. Isn’t Sondra’s ring beautiful?

Jen getting the girls where they need to go!

The first look. I love these moments!

A few portraits before we headed to the ceremony.

We were running a little late on the day, so i’m so thankful I was able to send Suzanne and Becky ahead to the ceremony site. When I pulled up to the church I literally ran into the doors and they started the ceremony. AHHH!! So thanks Suzanne for these beautiful images.

You can’t tell me that there still isn’t emotion walking down the aisle if you’ve done a first look. Just look at Sondra.. she’s glowing!

These guys were crackups… even during the ceremony!

At the last minute Sondra asked me to ride in the limo with them. I trustfully handed my keys over to my girls and jumped in. It was a blast! And my car made it to the Biltmore in one piece! Thanks Becky!

Such a fun 1st part of the day!!!

Coming up tomorrow…. Part 2 of Sondra and Greg’s wedding. Stay tuned!!

The Perfect Smoky Eye

Yay!!  Some questions came in and I’m getting right to the first one!

The lovely Amanda asked me to interview my favorite makeup artist about the perfect smoky eye, and my friend, I have your response 🙂

For this question, I asked my all-time favorite makeup artist, the AMAZING Sarah SanMarco, who has done my makeup many times, the makeup of more than half of our brides, and makeup for all kinds of events/people/special occasions.  I am super picky, like incredibly afraid and picky, about who I let near my face because I break out and get skin reactions to just about everything under the sun, and Sarah is the only person I let do anything and everything to my face.  She’s amazing 🙂 Below is her answer to the question.

Q:  How do you properly accomplish a great smoky eye?

This is me, sporting a perfect smoky eye, thanks to Sarah San Marco at our Boudoir Bonanza!

A: From Sarah San Marco:

For this, let’s use blues to achieve the look.  Lots of Denim Blue shades are popular right now!  MAC Cosmetics has just launched a new line of Denim Blue shadows that are sure to fit everyone’s coloring this spring! http://www.maccosmetics.com/whats_new/4791/index.tmpl

Prep Your Skin

To achieve that perfect Smoky Eye, like Jenny is wearing, always use a concealer & powder on your lid & keep your skin looking fresh!

Select Your Brushes Carefully

You will want to start with 4 different shadows, all products used on Jenny were purchased at MAC; Knight Devine, Wedge, Carbon & Naked Lunch.
* MAC Biltmore & MAC Scottsdale Fashion Square (PRO STORES) will sell refill shadows that you can custom select that fit right in a quad palette. It’s cheaper per shadow to purchase & replace this way! Yippee!

(Brushes are also by MAC, but you can use ones you already have that are similar to achieve this look. I have put the 3’s for each brush so you can surf MAC’s sight & compare!)

Step By Step Instruction

1) # 228 Mini Shader Brush- Place

“Knight Devine” on the upper lid, from your lash line all the way up to your crease, slightly bringing it up at the outer corner.  Also use the finer part of this brush to swipe some shadow under your eye, not going in farther than the inner part of your Iris. (Tip- I like to apply “just a dab” of water to my brush when using a dark shade right on the lid to avoid dust falling below the eye. If you dab it on a tissue & water comes out, it’s too much)

2) #275 Medium Angled Shading Brush-

Using “Wedge”, apply in your crease to just under your eye bone, do this all across your lid in that area.  Blending until your color is soft. You should not be able to see where the shadow starts & stops, it should be very subtle.

3) # 219 Pencil Brush-

Just a dab of “Carbon” on the outer corners of your upper lid, slighting winging the shadow up at the ends.  Use a tad of this on the outer lower lash line as well, winging it out & up!
This will help give that “Cat Eye” Look!

4) #239 Eye Shader Brush-

Place “Naked Lunch” on your brow bone & in the inside corners of your eye.  This will leave your eyes illuminating & polished!

5)  Last.. Line the “Inside” of your eyes with a Black liner on the Top & Bottom.  Or, I like an “Indigo Blue” for Brown Eyes! Finish up with black mascara!  My fav. pick- Buxom by Bare Escentuals! Available at Sephora–and you’re all set and smoky!

Last Tip:

Remember to keep your lips & cheeks light with this look!

That’s your answer!  I’d trust her, I certainly only look this fetching thanks to her magical work on my face in this picture!!!  Keep the question coming and I’ll keep hitting up Sarah for her expertise on makeup!  Send me questions on anything fashion, makeup, hair, boys, groceries, pets, whatever! –I’ll get you answers 🙂

Megan + Ryan | Encanterra Golf Resort

Posted by Kimberly Jarman

I got a call from Lana a few months ago. I always love hearing from her as she did the makeup for my wedding, I photographed her oldest daughters wedding, and she is my Beauti Control representative whenever I run out of makeup or face wash!! So, it’s fun to see how things are going when she calls. This time she had some fun news for me… her youngest daughter was getting married and they wanted me to photograph it! I love getting these calls because it’s really fun to photograph multiple family members’ weddings. I feel like family and have a lot of fun!

When I met Megan and Ryan for their engagement session we had a blast. Megan is gorgeous and Ryan is a cool guy. Their pictures were great and I was totally stoked (yes, I just said stoked) for their wedding.

The venue was something Megan was really excited about. They had found a gold pot!! A new venue for weddings and gorgeous, Encanterra Golf Club out in Queen Creek. She was excited about the architecture and all the gorgeous areas to take pictures. So of course we set a lot of time for pictures to make sure we captured it all!!

The day before the wedding I was driving back from a conference out in California with my girls Briana and KB. We had had a wonderful time and were talking about the upcoming wedding. Suddenly Briana said, um… Kim…. just so you know there is a 70% chance of rain tomorrow….. WHAT??? I stayed calm and I know my track record, I can count on one hand the number of times it’s rained on me on a wedding day and most of the time it all clears up when it’s time to do portraits. I prayed a little prayer and said, we’ll be just fine!!

Saturday was windy. It was Cloudy. It was cold. However, when we pulled up to Encanterra it still wasn’t raining. That was a good sign. We found the golf resort, which is literally far away in Queen Creek and very hidden. When they opened the gates for me my breath was taken aback. It was like we had entered into a new world… it was pretty amazing. I was totally stoked to take pictures here. Green rolling grass, the club house in the background. It was going to be amazing.

Then we saw the first sign of danger…. something hit my car and then another one and suddenly everywhere we saw tumbleweeds flying at us fast and furious. They were everywhere and not just sauntering around, but coming full force. We opened the door to see how windy it was and we were blown away. It was insane.

We decided that being out in the gorgeous open was not going to cut it unless Megan was daring. We went and scouted around and found some gorgeous locations that weren’t windy and would be great. We then talked to Megan and she said she was down for ANYTHING… so we had hope.

About the time we were going to take portraits things changed again, it started pouring. Down pour. Not really a great sign when you are very limited in your indoor space and have a bride that really shouldn’t get soaked before the ceremony. Everyone was bummed, but Megan and Ryan took it all in stride and went with it. We hunted around for some great locations that were covered and got some great portraits. Unfortunately we weren’t able to utilize all that Encanterra had to offer, which was such a huge bummer, but the day went great and with some creative thinking i’m very happy with how the pictures turned out and the whole day.

Megan and Ryan’s family were such troopers and I was so blessed to be a part of this day. It goes to show that as long as the Bride and Groom have a great attitude about everything, things will turn out amazing!

The wonderful vendors that helped make this day as special and beautiful as it was!

Now on to pictures!!!

The Dress… stunning.

Mary got some great details!!

Megan had 2 different shoes to wear. LOVED both.

This cutie pie is Heather, the brides sister and whose wedding I photographed, little girl. She was so cute!!

Gorgeous Megan.

Love their first loook!

Great captures by Mary.

Isn’t she beautiful?

Love this one Mary got too!

I don’t know if this little girl was part of the wedding but it was so cute. She was enamored by watching Ryan and Megan.

We went back and forth on where to do the ceremony. At first it was outside, but when it rained they talked about moving it into the ball room. I convinced them to do it on the patio outside and it was beautiful… a little cramped, but beautiful.

The Gloor Family. I shot their wedding in 2004. They were one of my first!!! Look at their gorgeous family!!

Gorgeous details.

I really love first dances!

I just thought this was funny:)

Father Daughter love!

So this is one of the best pictures ever because of the story. Heather, Megan’s sister, came running into the reception room and told me that some guy had just pulled up to the front in a Uhaul, jumped out, and was being chased by the cops. He ran into the lake and tried to swim away, but was caught. WHAT? Wow, right in front of the reception hall. Who would have thought. So of course we had to get a picture on the cop car, with the Uhaul and everything!

What a great wedding! Thanks to everyone!

Leaving this post with a cute picture of Mary and Me!! I love my team!

Writer’s Block

Help.  I’m having a SERIOUS brain drought when it comes to interesting topics right now!  Have you ever just knocked on your brain and heard a cavernous, echoing response?  Yeah, that’s me right now.  I’ve been staring at my computer screen, coming up with nothing, my peeps.

Here’s my proposition-let me know some topics you’d like to hear about! Are you wondering what’s coming up for spring fashion? Are you debating a spray tan?  Are you hoping someone will post some information on how to wear shorts when you have spider veins?  Are you dying to know if your sunglasses make you look stupid? Are you hoping that someone will tell you if super faded, ripped up jeans are out of style?  Are you looking for a new hairstyle?    Ask me!

I’m opening this blog up to be a Dear JennyP, much like the famed Dear Abby, and if you send me your fashion questions/makeup questions/health questions/heck–send me relationship questions and I’ll do my best!  I’ll feature a question or two each week, and do my darn-dest to answer them for you!

Send emails to:  jenny@kimberlyjarman.com, or just post them right down below in the comment section (no worries, I’ll keep all questions anonymous!)

And if I receive none, you’ll know because next week’s column might be super boring….unless my good old brain decides she’s not overworked, she just needed a short break. Let’s just hope I get some questions……

xoxoxo,

Amanda - How about interview your favorite makeup person. I’d love a pro’s take on how to correctly do a smokey eye for a night out. 🙂

KJ + Weddings = Published on Travel to I Do!

Being published is so so SO exciting! Back in September we shot one of our most beloved couples at the Four Seasons and they had made Scottsdale their destination wedding spot, lucky for us, flying in family from New York, Connecicut, and the entire groom’s side from England!

Laurie and Daniel are just about two of the kindest, most fun people we’ve been lucky enough to meet, and shooting their gorgeous wedding was a dream, so it’s only icing on this already wonderful cake that Travel to I Do  featured this wedding, and our work, on their blog this week!

Please check out the posting, and we were told that if we receive more than 20 comments, we’ll be pushed up to their “featured wedding” slot! So……..type something people!  🙂 Hope you all enjoy the pictures as much as we enjoyed taking them!
