When the studio received an email from Ashley and Lance about photographing their wedding, we were completely intrigued. So intrigued, that our very own Kimberly Jarman decided to jump on as the 2nd shooter, just to be a part of it. As we talked to Ashley a little more about her big day, we realized that the wedding was going to be based on the Tree of Souls from the movie “Avatar” and some of the film’s parables regarding life and love. Ashley and Lance have a very unique and wonderful story and our team absolutely loved being a part of their wedding day.
We usually include a list of vendors, but in this case, the entire wedding was a labor of love from all of Ashley and Lance’s family and friends. We tip our hats to the entire behind-the-scenes crew, who created and orchestrated every detail flawlessly.

Linens: Classic Party Rentals

Catering: Kent Krestan

Florist: Desert Rose Florist

The first look…

Doing what guys do best on a wedding day… hanging out.

Lance’s grandfather made all of the guys these bolo ties.

Lance’s mom made cheesecakes for all the guests and they were AMAZING!

And a backstage snapshot of The Team (minus me, taking the pic) in between locations… laughing, eating, and driving. Yes, all at the same time =).

Create Better Images Workshops Jan. 2011 Recap | posted by kimberly jarman

A couple of weeks ago  Jennifer Bowen and I did our Create Better Images photography workshops. We had such a great turn out and had a wonderful time getting to know all of our attendees.

We started on Thursday with our Beginners workshop and taught a lot of people who had just gotten new cameras for Christmas how to take them off of the little green box and start shooting to get great pictures. From the feedback we got everyone learned a ton and, although their heads were spinning, they left with some great tips and ways to take better pictures. I didn’t take a ton of pictures of our beginner class because I always forget to actually stop and take pictures, but here is a cute one of all the attendees trying to figure out their cameras.

If you are new to photography and really just want to learn how to use your camera better, our beginners workshop is perfect for you!

Intermediate Workshop

On Saturday we taught our intermediate workshop which is 7 hours of jam packed learning and a hands on photo shoot. We had a great turnout, about 15 attendees, and were able to give hands on learning and training to all of them. We spent the first half of the workshop inside my studio learning about what makes a great picture, how to work with clients, how to get the most out of your clients, and showed them photographs that Jen and I have taken and how we actually accomplished them.

We then headed outside with our models, a cute family and an adorable couple. I stood back and got some fun shots of the attendees. I think everyone was having a great time.

At the end of the night we went back into the studio, pulled out our laptops and talked about Lightroom and post processing.

We had people leaving saying it was the best money they have ever spent… it makes us so happy!

Here are a few shots that I got of the crew and the models!

Thanks to all of our attendees and our great models! What a fun workshop!!

Theresa + Paul | posted by kimberly jarman

I remember the day that I first met Theresa and Paul so clearly. They walked up to me at an event and we started talking about their wedding and photography. I fell head over heals in love with both of them. Theresa’s smile totally lit up the room and Paul was a totally  nice and classy guy. I KNEW that they were my type of clients and perfect for me. When they called to tell me that they wanted to book me I was so ecstatic!

The wedding was held on December 31, 2010, New Years Eve, at the Royal Palms Resort. It was BEAUTIFUL! Theresa and Paul, with the help of one of our favorite coordinators, Jen Thye (Imoni Events), put on the event of the year. The ceremony was held outside at night in the Alegria Garden (one of my favorite locations). They lit the area where they were standing and it made for a very memorable night. The reception was decorated like nothing i’ve ever seen; Theresa had a specific vision for it that turned out beautifully.

Both Theresa and Paul have amazing kids from previous marriages, that were very involved in the entire day. I love how they incorporated the entire family.

I had a wonderful team with me for this wedding and I can’t thank them enough (I had no voice the day of the wedding due to a nasty cold, so they were so very helpful and did an amazing job). Thank you to Briana, JennyP and KB for all your wonderful help!

And, as always, I must give a huge shout out to all the amazing vendors who really made this a day that Theresa and Paul will never forget! You were ALL amazing.

Here is the list of who we were lucky enough to work with at this wedding:

Venue + Catering: The Royal Palms

Event Coordinator: Imoni Events

DJ: SKM Entertainment

Videography: Serendipity Videography

Florist: The Flower Studio

Officiant: Scott Swanson

Hair: Jessica Lawson

Makeup: Linda Wagner

Linens: Wildflower Linens

GownSuzanne’s Bridal

Let’s start out with some of the amazing details of the day. Look at all this yummy goodness!! Ahhhh… details.

When I walked in Theresa was relaxed as ever. Candles were lit, Champagne was flowing… it was wonderful.

kb got ready with Paul and his son and Theresa’s son. She got some great pictures.

Look at how gorgeous Theresa is.

Theresa’s daughter walked in and we got this beautiful mother+daughter shot.

Simply Stunning.

I’m so thankful for first looks. They really help us to get some amazing images and show some very RAW emotion.

He got her a beautiful watch. Love the reactions!

PORTRAIT TIME=Kim’s favorite time of the day! LOVE THESE!

Our newest team member, Briana, walked around and got some gorgeous detail shots of the day. Way to go Briana!

Ceremony details! Isn’t it gorgeous?

Theresa with her son… I love this moment.

I normally don’t post many formal portraits, but I couldn’t resist these.

The Ceremony was VERY dramatic. Love these next few.

Nice capture by Briana.

Off to the GORGEOUS Reception Details.

Paul’s kids walking in… LOVE!

Beautiful First Dance.

I love this shot that kb got!

Paul’s son had the best speech any of us have ever heard. He had everyone roaring with laughter.

Tender moment. New Favorite.

Dances with the kids.

Thank you Theresa and Paul for letting me be a part of such a beautiful and amazing day. You guys are perfect!

A few pics of the vendors that worked the event!!

Serendipity, SKM, the KJ team, and Imoni Events. We have a lot of fun!

The Newest Face in Fashion is From (and named) Arizona

Arizona Muse. No, that’s not a trendy new perfume or clothing label, it’s the name of the biggest up-and-coming model in high fashion right now, and she’s not what you expect in looks, attitude, or back-story.  I’m a bit in love with her, to be honest. When you imagine a SUPERMODEL don’t well kind of picture long, impossibly glossy hair that’s kind of wavy in that “I didn’t do anything but wake up” perfection way I can never achieve, a flawless face, waifer thin body, and legs that reach from here to Tennessee?   Well, this young lady is changing up the “face” of fashion, and she was born in Tucson, grew up camping all over AZ and is not at all the Parisian perfection we’re very used to seeing in magazine ads–all reasons why I love her so much, and I think we should all take note of her because: she isn’t a cookie cutter image of a model, she’s herself, and she’s fabulous!

Incredibly gorgeous, incredibly different than the supermodel norm

Arizona has short, curly hair.  She has ridiculously thick eyebrows. She is 22 and has a daughter. She has teeth that are a bit “funny”. Isn’t this great news? The model all the designers are now jumping to book, and bending over backwards for, isn’t a symmetrical masterpiece by heavenly hands that is impossible to relate to, it’s a girl who is beautiful without long hair, bold features, and a life story that is real, and very different most of the girls in her field. She isn’t Gisele Bundchen, who breezed in from South America with all her incredible perfection and sex appeal. She isn’t Claudia Schiffer who looks so blondely angelic that I could cry looking at her pictures. She isn’t Heidi Klum who can only be called a Glamazon and doesn’t even seem quite human in her flawlessness.  Nope, the girl they all want, the girl gracing Vogue right now, is an Arizona girl with non-traditional features and, quite frankly, really bushy eyebrows. And you know what?  She’s gorgeous!

Claudia, Gisele, Heidi–I love you, you are perfect, but it’s time for some variety!

I know I am always going on about the beauty in differences, the beauty in being yourself, and the beauty in what’s YOU, but it’s nice to be backed up by those gods over at Prada, Gucci, and anywhere there’s a runway in Milan. I love that they’re choosing a woman like this, as the new direction of high fashion. No, they’re not suddenly sporting curvier women down the Zac Posen runway, and no, they’re not making the ethnic quotients even in their ads, but this is a step! Arizona Muse is not your typical runway queen, and she’s being called the New Face of Fashion. That’s a big deal. Anything that starts on those runways trickles down to our world, so let’s hope this means unruly-haired, imperfect smiled, or even just different looking women start popping up on the walls of Old Navy and Target. There’s nothing more boring than monotony, I like to see a new face, and I really like it to have “funny” teeth.

Lovely, unique and just lovely

Don’t straighten your hair today.  Say you’re going “Muse” with it.  Liberating!

xoxoxoxo
