April Showers bring New Clothes {Fashion Frenzy Friday’s with JennyP}

Spring fashion is here!  I don’t know about all of you, but I love the beginning of this season because by March I am truly sick of wearing 86 layers of gray sweaters.  This isn’t to say I’m eagerly hoping for the sweltering days of July when all I’m willing to wear is my thinnest dress and nothing that’s going to stick to me.  No, for me I love the change in season when dresses, skirts, shorts, and little tops come back, but maybe you still throw on a little sweater at night.  I like all that spring represents as well.  New flowers, new growth, new beginnings.  The shedding of winter is good in my world, and this spring I’m really excited about the styles hitting all the stores!

Apparently pretty is back, and I, for one, am loving it.  Last spring we saw lots of rocker chick styles: the skintight jeans, crazy-strappy black heels, and really structured tops.  Well, I was incredibly excited when I opened up my most recent Cosmopolitan (how hot is Amanda Seyfried on the cover by the way??) to see a bunch of ruffly, floaty, floral, pink, PRETTY clothes!  Maxi dresses covered in flowers, soft fabrics, and pastel colors were all over my magazine and it made me just feel happy!  I think most women, universally, want to look pretty, and pretty clothes seem like a no-brainer to me.  I’m totally digging all the ruffles and girly embellishments on this season’s clothes, and I think they are just more flattering.  Not a lot of people can pull off sharp shoulders, skintight jean leggings, and catwalk heels (and for real, how many of you have weekly schedules conducive to this look?  Are you all secretly working at MTV?).  A floaty top with jeans and little pink ballet slippers is a much more functional outfit, in my opinion, for the average woman, and it’s still pretty!

The thing about this spring, is that some of that edge has still carried over, resulting in such a fun combo of rocker and pretty.  Rockpretty?  New word anyone?  A lot of designers kept the high-voltage shoes, bags, metallic colors, but paired them with the soft fabrics and looser styles.  I am obsessed with this combo!  It kind of says, “I’m the homecoming queen…that could beat you up.”  Who doesn’t want to give out that vibe?!   Here are some of my favorite spring looks:

Flower shoes, floaty dresses, and a poufy gold party dress?  Yes please!

Looking super cool while sporting a spring dress in tough girl colors?  Ruffles all down your shirt? Gorgeous!

So my advice in adopting this season’s spring looks is to incorporate a few pieces at a time.  Add a ruffly top to your standard jeans, grab a fun dress off the rack for your next date night, and take note of the model’s hair–wavy and loose, but still sleek in front.  These looks are so easy to copy and put into your routine!  Get girly this spring!
