For those who use Blogger… a little tip.

I have loved getting everyones comments lately… I think I’m going to run a contest every couple weeks to make sure you all keep commenting!!!

However, the bummer thing with blogger is that if you don’t have a blog with blogger I am not able to email you back to thank you for commenting… and the people who do have a blog with blogger only some of you have your settings set up so that I can quickly email you back. So I thought I would hand out a blogger tip that I recently found out about.

How to allow people to email you back when you comment with your blogger account.

You will find everything in the profile view of your blogger account.

1) When you log in to your blog go to edit your profile.

2) In the first section you will see a bunch of questions under Privacy. Make sure show your profile is clicked and also the show my email address box. – This will allow people to see who you are and when you post a comment on someones site they will be able to directly email you to thank you for the comment or answer your question.

3) Under the identity section make sure you put in the email address you want people to email you back at.

It’s really simple to do and makes a huge difference for those who want to get to know you a little better when you comment!

Let me know if you all have any questions and also if this was helpful.

Erin Harvey - I’m glad you explained that! I thought I was all set up but I guess there are lots of little settings in there that I didn’t know about. =)

Liene at Blue Orchid Designs - That second paragraph makes no sense now because it changed the code automatically to the @ symbol, even though I thought I had changed the tag enough. It was supposed to read “you can actually type & # 6 4; (only smush them all together) in place of the @ sign.”

Liene at Blue Orchid Designs - I have this turned off because anytime there is an email address on the web or a “mail to:” function (such as the link on the blogger page) on the web that looks like this: soandso@soandsoemail.com, web “spiders” will crawl it and add it to their spam databases. That’s why so many people write out their address soandso{at}soandsoemail.com.

I’ve read that you can actually type ‘@’ in place of the @ sign and that since the html is changed the crawlers won’t recognize it, but the browsers will and change it to read appropriately. I am not really sure of the validity of this option though and I tried it out in the blogger form field of the profile section and they won’t allow it anyway.

Another option I’ve seen a lot with customized blogs is to have the email address shown on the blog as a jpeg. (skelliewag.org is a good example of this)

Sorry that’s long, but it’s why I don’t have my email address available. This topic is actually on my editorial calendar for the smart planner blog this week. 🙂

Mary Beth Tyson Photography - Here’s a test. It’s funny you posted this because I was just cleaning up my blogger account. Let’s see if it works! 🙂
