Google Voice – Invitation

A few weeks ago I got an invitation to use Google Voice. It’s new and looks exciting, so I signed up and added my IPhone. At first it was pretty cool, it takes over your phones voice mail and directs your phone to Google voice mail. There are some neat things with it because it will send you a text message of the voice mail so that you can quickly read what was said in the voice mail, and then it emails you as well. You can click on the link to hear the voice mail if you don’t want to read the text.

At first it was working great and I kinda really liked it; however, after using it for awhile it’s starting to drive me nuts. Here are a few reasons why:

1) The voice mail no longer shows up on my phone so I can’t listen to it right away. I actually have to connect to the internet in order to go listen to it, so if my signal on my phone is bad or slow it takes forever.

While in Las Vegas the last few days no one could get their phones to work properly. Emails and texts were coming hours after they were sent and connecting to the internet was horrible, so in order to actually listen to a message it took at times 30-45 minutes to connect and be able to listen.

2) The “text” version of the message are hilarious to say the least. They don’t make sense AT ALL, but do make for comic relief.

While in Vegas I received so many very interesting voice mails. I had to share a few of them because they are way too funny to pass by.

– “Thanks. Hey Kim, my phone and I have. My flight’s not. I wanna rent and all and water hospital charge, so if you wanna come whenever we.”

– “Hey Kim, It’s Rebecca, I have my glasses, And I was wondering if you were still meeting up for dinner. I just think 35. If the tapes trying to wonder that class. But anyway, give me a call back. Bye.”

– “Hey girl. It’s me, just calling to see where your ass. It’s a big meeting. I’m getting 100. I have felt. I’m hoping to get this. Gimme a call. Bye”

Since I knew that my friends were not drunk it was hillarious; however, it did not help me in any way to know what they were really saying, and since I couldn’t check the voice mail because of shotty service, Google voice let me down this week. Because of that I will be taking my cell phone off of Google voice until the text versions are fixed to where they actually make sense.

I think that Google has a great idea here and it’s not a bad thing to jump on if it sounds fun and exciting to you, but be forewarned there are many quirks that need to be fixed before it it fully functional.

Jessi - Too funny! Thanks for the review…it was an app on my Droid and I was wondering about it. I think I’ll let it be for now. 🙂
