I hope by now you aren’t all sick of all of our posts about the MS Silent Auction, because there are only 2 days left and we have a LONG Way to go!!! My goal is to raise $3000 from the silent auction that will go towards helping find a cure for MS. As i’m talking more and more about MS i’m finding more people who have been affected by this horrible disease. Recently I just learned that one of my brides best friends and also one of our clients have been diagnosed with this disease and it has truly affected their lives. When people first hear that they have MS it seems hopeless, but there is hope and there is support out there! This walk is a way to show people that we support them and also a way to raise money to help them fight!

I would love to hear from all of you if you know of someone who has this disease and how this has affected their lives. Please feel free to comment and share your stories. I would love to share more of them with our readers on Wednesday (our last day of the auction).

Cabinet Concepts

A few months ago we got a new neighbor, Cabinet Concepts, and immediately we liked them very much, they’re super cool guys.  Then, as time went on and their shop started forming and being built up, we have been completely impressed with their talent, hard work, and beautiful cabinetry.  Their studio is gorgeous and they’ve really created an amazing space next door.  As we’ve gotten to know the gentlemen behind the work, we learned that there is a deep love of precious gemstones and an extensive jewelry collection.  Imagine our happiness and surprise when they offered up a beautiful ruby ring valued at over $4,000 for our silent auction!  Thank you, neighbors!

Do you want to eat the best pizza ever?  You should do what we do, and head across the street from our studio over to Queen’s Pizzeria and Cafe.  They offer up these amazingly delicious slices and yummy salads with a big smile, always giving you great service and a fun atmosphere.  As work friends of our studio’s, we can vouch for both their food (delish!!) and their kindness (genuine!!)  We really love this place as a great spot for work meetings, lunch on the fly, and times when we just need to get out of the office for a minute!  They are so kindly donating $10 to be used in their shop, and it’s worth the deal.

This amazing restaurant is located next door to us…literally right next door, and JennyP has been going broke on it!  The couple that own the place are just about the cutest duo you can imagine, and come from head chef experience at the Ritz!  He’s retired to own and operate this great little spot where everyone in downtown Mesa stops in for lunch and dinner.  They serve delicious wraps (the turkey wrap is Jenny’s go-to lunch choice daily), burgers, and a few items that might surprise you like their amazingly decadent desserts.  They are so kindly donating a $20 gift certificate to their joint, and with their completely reasonable prices, this more than hosts two for a great lunch and something sweet after!

Over the last 7 years I’ve learned a lot. A lot about life, business, and photography. I started my business while I was a senior in college. I used my grant money from my last semester to buy a camera and a laptop and then created my own website. I got my name out there, took a lot of workshops, was mentored by some of the best in the country and just pushed through. I had never 2nd shot a wedding before and I just jumped head in. My business grew every year and in the last 7 years I now have a beautiful studio,  3 associate photographers, an amazing office manager and 2 interns. It’s been kind of amazing but a lot of work.

It doesn’t happen over night and you have to be willing to work hard. I’ve learned and trained with some of the best photographers and business people, and it has changed my life and business.

There are a lot of photographers out there right now who have a dream to own a business and to be successful, but they want it all to happen fast, they aren’t willing to invest into their business or their equipment or work to make their dreams happen.

I’ve had the chance to train and mentor a few up and coming photographers and I value those who want to grow and become better. I love seeing how well they are succeeding and many of them have become good friends.

Sadly, I don’t have time to do a lot of mentoring and haven’t offered one on one sessions because of that. A lot of people have asked and I know the demand is out there, so I decided that if I’m going to do one it’s going to be for a great cause.

Many of you have heard about our Silent Auction that is happening this week to raise money for my cousin Christy. She has MS and it has completely affected her life. I want to raise money to find a cure, so we are auctioning off a lot of items this week in hopes of raising $3000.

My donation to the auction is a personal One on One mentor session for a day with me. Like, I said, I don’t do these often because we just don’t have time. This mentor session will be fully up to what you want to learn. We can go over photography, business, accounting, shooting, lighting, etc. We can do a mock photoshoot and I can walk you through things. Pretty much this day will go as you want. I’m dedicating it to your learning.

The bidding is starting at $300 and in all reality this is over a $1500 value, so I’m really hoping that there will be a good bidding war and that those of you who have always wanted to grown in your photography and business will take this as a great investment and opportunity… so come on, head over to the auction site and bid like mad!!! Information about Bidding

This is a silent auction, meaning that you will bid on these items throughout the week and the highest bidder will win the auction. Your money will be due on Thursday, October 14th and if not received by then the bidder underneath you will win the auction. Jenny is out in California this weekend watching her wonderful man graduate as a Navy Seal and also enjoying the much cooler weather. She has also generously donated her Fashion Frenzy Friday to a very worthy cause and something both Jenny and I are close to in similar ways. I want to thank her for helping me put this together at the last minute!!

MS, Multiple Sclerosis, is a terrifying and heart breaking disease, and here at Kimberly Jarman Photography we’ve been affected by it in a few ways.  Jenny’s aunt was very recently diagnosed with MS and her family is just learning about this condition and all the ways it affects her life, and her families. I, Kimberly Jarman,  learned about this disease and was affected by it about 4 years ago when my cousin, Christy, was diagnosed with MS when she was 24 (read more about Christy’s story here).   At first I really did not know what it was and didn’t understand how insanely crazy and horrible it is, but quickly learned. In the last 4 years i’ve watched how this disease has changed Christy’s life and how she has fought through everything it’s thrown at her. I’m so proud of her and want to stand by her every way that I can.

On November 6th, 2010 I will be walking for MS along with my family, friends, and thousands of other people. We are trying to raise money to help find a way to get rid of and cure this horrible disease called Multiple Sclerosis. I’ve been walking in this for 4 years now and sadly have never had the chance to help raise money for it. This year when I found out when the walk was I decided that I would somehow try to donate and raise money. My vision started as a small donation of something that I could auction off somehow, a mentor session or a portrait session, and all of the sudden others started asking if they could help, and it got me thinking that I should dream bigger and try to see if more people would help donate to this cause. Within a week I got some amazing donations and have been in awe of people’s generosity.

MS affects each area of your life, forever, and while there are amazing treatments, there is a long road to walk to a cure, or a real way to make the symptoms and side effects of the disease something that isn’t a struggle each day to live with.  The National MS Society raises money for awareness, research, and all kinds of other aspects of support for people suffering with MS, as well as the medical community devoted to making advancements in the journey.

So what is Kimberly Jarman Photography doing?  We’re hosting an online silent auction with some of our favorite vendors and friends and are hoping to raise as much money as possible for the MS Walk on 11/6/10, while auctioning off some amazing stuff!  Listed below are the amazing people contributing their goods and services to our cause. Food pantries are everywhere, right?  Usually around the holidays you donate some canned goods to your local grocery bins and do your much needed part, and this sustains the system, right?  It’s not like the US is in a hunger crisis such as Africa, and this isn’t an issue as close-to-home as something like current tax changes or the suffering economy….right?

We’re wrong.  All of us are very wrong in thinking (or not thinking) about this issue.  There is most certainly a hunger need in this country, this state, this county, and your town.  In Arizona, 19.2% of all children under 18 are food-insecure, which is the fifth highest rate in the country (Dept. of Health and Human Services).  When the economy started falling, the needy only became needier, but with everyone else struggling, it’s been leaving our donations very short, so short in fact that many of our pantries are completely empty and as our amazing, kind-hearted, outspoken, go-getting friend Jen Thye of Imoni Events was good enough to remind us, this is something we need to turn around.  We at the Kimberly Jarman Photography Studio are joining Jen in her crusade to raise 1000 pounds of food in two weeks for the Arizona Hunger Campaign in every way that we can, and we’re reaching out to all we know to help us in this cause.

We want to ensure she reaches her goal, so we are adding in a benefit for the person that brings us the most food, in pounds, to donate to the Arizona Hunger Campaign- a free portrait session and $200 print credit.  Yep, we’re pretty serious here, people.  We’re asking for food donations to be brought here, to our studio, by June 18th, and the person with the most food in pounds will be rewarded with a free session and $200 print credit.

We’d like to take this moment to turn the floor over to Jen with the details of this crisis, as her words speak so much better than ours, and hope that everyone reading can find a moment to bring their donations to the studio and we can fully support Jen in her important and giving cause.

Dear Friends-

This email comes to you with a very broken heart….

Recently I had a girlfriend try to volunteer her family at a food bank for Disney’s “Give a Day, Get a Day” promotion only to find out that they literally have no food in their pantry.  Then I was at church this weekend and was informed of a state wide push to fill the pantries called The Arizona Hunger Campaign.  Their goal is to make sure no child goes to bed hungry.  You can click here to read about it’s kick off that occurred this past May 6th.

To be very vulnerable with you all, since my pride is much less important than this cause, I have very vivid memories of walking to food banks when I was a kid.  My mom was an uneducated, single mother who worked two jobs to make ends meet.  But most months she fell short.  If it wasn’t for food boxes, my mom would have to endure putting us to bed with growling tummies.  As a mom now, I can’t even imagine that scene without breaking into tears.  My mom was one strong lady though, so I am going to be just as strong, and bold.

So, I am asking for your help. I personally want to make a difference in this Arizona Hunger Campaign.  But I would love your help!  I need your help! You can help two ways.

1.  You can buy any of the following items:

Peanut butter & jelly
Spaghetti sauce & pasta
Canned meat such as Tuna or Chicken
Canned fruit & vegetables
Cereal
Canned soup
Macaroni & cheese
Rice
Boxed meals (like Tuna Helper)
Canned meals (chili, Spaghetti Os, etc.)
Boxed desserts (instant pudding, gelatin, brownie mix, etc.)

The goal of Arizona Hunger is to raise 5 million pounds of food in one year.  My personal goal is to raise at least 1000 pounds of food in the next two weeks.  Huge goal, but I know we can do it.  In addition to what I am going to donate already, I am going to match whatever you donate to this cause.  Dollar for dollar, can for can.  This means a lot to me.

This issue ways very heavy on my heart, but I am hoping the next two weeks will change lots of lives for the better, including yours.  Thank you in advance for playing your part!

My husband works in accounting and works for a firm named Price Kong. They are located in Phoenix and are wonderful! They just had a fundraiser Golf Tournament on Friday and I sponsored one of the holes and took pictures of all the golfers. I also donated a portrait session to their raffle to help raise money for the fundraiser. It was a fun day and I had a great time taking pictures.

For those of you who were at the tournament, if you would like to see more of the pictures you can go to my online viewing store. I created some really fun postcards that I now have in the office as well.

It was fun to see all the different golfers come out.
